Howdy, folks
I just heard from a trusted source that the annual extravaganza called the Sunflower Farm Music Festival, aka Chuckstock, will be happening this Fall, and that the date has been set as October 2 - 4.
October 4 is the night of the full moon, ensuring that lunatics will be acendant throughout the festival.
The Rainbow Sinkhole Kitchen will be serving up the finest of dumpster dived provender (menu to be determined by Eris at the last moment, like usual, but there WILL BE BACON!), for free, of course.
I will be there Friday and Saturday (I'm looking for someone to take the Saturday night and Sunday shift), cranking mass food to hungry hippies.
I hope to see you there!
Be kind to Chuck, and bring empty trash bags, and leave with full trash bags!

I talked to Chuck this last weekend, and he confirmed that Chuckstock will definately be the first weekend in October.
I am sure that there will be a work-party the weekend prior to Chuckstock, to get his land ready for the party. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it out that weekend.
I plan right now to drive out Sept 19 to check out the sinkhole kitchen area, do some prep work, and haul out a load of supplies (mainly firewood and trash bags, if I can get them).
See all you lunatics on Oct 2 - 4! Come down to the kitchen for the free food.
Blessed Be
Dr. Suitcase

I'm very excited for this year's festival, I just hope the weather behaves so late in the season.
Thanks as always Dr. Suitcase, the food is a welcome (and warm!) change when rations get scant or boring.

Heyyy Dr. Suitcase...Chuck's planning
Is there a spot at Chuck's where he can pile wood well before October? Like, throughout the summer? Being that Harvest is so late this year, and it's likely to be COLD, it might be nice to look out for donations of things all summer...and keep putting the word out for garbage bags, too. I know that some of the beer distributors are happy to part w/ pallets (although they burn FAST) and I'm sure we could get quite a collection by Autumn. I'd be happy to help w/ a little more of the organization aspects since I'm in town. What about finding someone to place a dumpster out there where people could toss all their garbage? I don't know how much they cost to rent, but maybe there is someone out there with a free hookup....

Before there are a dozen random facebook events about Chuck's, I created *one* and hopefully it'll stick. ;-) If anyone around here is on FB and wants to co-admin the event w/ me, feel free to tell me and I'll be happy to add you. I copied & pasted some of the info that's here & on degicank on to the event...I can update it whenever there's something worth adding. So....who is it that has been organizing the band lineup, and are they still doing it this year? Will Chuck be at the Farmer's Market today and/or next week to chat with? Ahh...summer. :-) AND - does anyone know anything about this event that's taking place out there on June 27th? ?

There are two spots at Chuck's that I'm pretty sure firewood could be safely piled all summer long without interfering with Chuck's farming: The same field that has the big firepit and stage in it; and the kitchen sinkhole, down next to the bigger, non-kitchen, fire pit. It would be best to check with Chuck first, but I'm sure that either of those places would be fine.
Speaking for the kitchen, I would be happy to get other people gathering firewood for there. Pallets make good cooking wood, as long as they are hard-wood (oak, etc) and not soft-wood (pine), and as long as they are cut up first (since it's hard to get a whole pallet under the grate ;-) ). Other cut hardwood would also be welcome.
As far as trash bags go, I know that Otto's Pub and Brewery throws out a massive number of grain sacks, which make excellent sturdy trash bags. They are happy to give them to anyone who asks . . . ask for Charlie (the manager of the brewery). I plan on picking up a big stack myself.
Spotting a roll-off dumpster gets to be expensive, but if everyone hauled away 1 bag of trash . . . ;-)
Blessed Be

Yeah, I do agree on the dumpster thing...and perhaps that's just inviting more mess to be left there than it's worth. ;-) If there are a lot of bags available then even those silly, silly folks (tsk tsk) who forget to bring bags can find something. If everybody brings more than they need.... :-)
Great news on places to put the wood, and hopefully I'll run into Chuck in the next week or two and can double-check with him. I think the pallets they have at Nittany Bev. are mostly pine, but I grabbed a bunch last year and there were a few *much* heavier ones. Pallets are a bitch to cut up, though! lol...hopefully if we can get them out there, there will be tools available to destroy them with. ;-)
Whenever I'm in Otto's throughout the summer I'll try to remember to ask about bags.
What kinds of things (aside from food) do you end up needing in the kitchen? Just curious what else people can look for/bring to donate.

I deleted my Facebook a long, long time ago -- is there any information regarding this June 27th get-together? Any logistical problems looking to be solved during this meeting?

What kind of things does the Kitchen need, besides food?
Well, the other big need the kitchen almost always has is for firewood. Cooking food over a fire burns a lot of wood. Hard wood of any kind (anything that is not pine, basically, will work), cut to a length that will fit under the grating (1 - 2 feet long is best) and no bigger than 6 inches across (split if bigger).
The Bliss fire (the other fire pit in the sinkhole, for people to hang out around) can happily take pine, and any size wood, and some really big logs would be a nice base for that fire.
The other thing I would love to have that I have no idea where to get it, is someone to commit to take over the kitchen for the Sat night/Sunday morning, since I'll be leaving the kitchen Sat around dark. I would also love a little company helping out while I'm there Friday and Sat, as many hands make light work.
I passed up on a couple of huge bags of baked goodies, including almost a dozen pies, at the Weis dumpster yesterday, since I have no way to store such bounty. Let's hope that Eris is as beneficent the few weeks before Chuckstock!!!
Blessed Be
Dr. Suitcase

Hi, Miss Jane
I would love to have your help in the kitchen this year, if you choose to plug in there. Look for the peace/love/free food sign (I may have to re-paint or replace it, since it's been a year of weathering) and come on down into the sinkhole.
I dropped by Otto's Brewery and picked up a bunch of pallets and all the empty grain bags they had (not many). They said they were going to get brewing hot and heavy this week, so if anyone wants to drop by next weekend, they said there might be as many as a hundred empty sacks to grab. These grain sacks make absolutely great trash bags, are super heavy-duty (won't rip no matter how much heavy glass bottles, etc is put in them).
They are happy to have people pick up pallets and empty sacks . . . you can just take the pallets (in the back, opposite side from the restaurant entrance, behind a wood fence) anytime, but you have to find someone from the brewery side and ask for the bags.
I'm already looking forward to Chuckstock!
