I just finished "The Emporor's New Mind" by Roger Penrose. Unbelievable! I started this book on our 2003 Pl=anet 22 USA tour. I lost it when I returned and found it over christmas. Please read this one and respond here. STEPHEN W. HAWKING: Although I'm regarded as a dangerous radical by particle physicists for proposing that there may be loss of quantum coherence, I'm definitely a conservative compared to Roger. ******************************** www.friesian.com/penrose.htmpsyche.cs.monash.edu.au/v2/psyche-2-06-moravec.html

Thoughts are wasted energy defused through nerons, absorbed by the brain and then shit out of the organism.

I hope all Degiscientist have sucessfully changed over to scholar.google.com/At this point where Degicank is playing a pro game we have to make sure all of our background info is 2legit2quit. Kirk I need some graphics for story boards files of patpanang photo, and those crazy guys that narrate the science show.

Zinc: A nurse at work swears that zinc will help a cold. I heard that the person who discovered zinc would eat it; he thought it was the "elixir" of eternal life. I asked the pharmy at the drugstore if there was a better form of zinc than the vitamins with a million extra ingredients. He said he takes "coldeze" some kind of zinc cough drop. They say the colds duration was significantly lowered in double blind experiments. I usually don't take any kind of medicine or supplement, but I thought that since Zinc is an element I should try it out. What do you think?
The use of volcanic ashes internally is almost older than civilization itself. Primitive tribes of various continents have used various types of clay for conditions of toxicity. Dr. Weston A. Price in his book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration:, pages 266-267, stated that in studying diets of certain tribes he examined their knapsacks. Among those examined in the high Andes, among those in Central Africa and among the Aborigines of Australia he reported that some contained balls of clay, a little of which was dissolved in water. Into the clay were dipped morsels of food. The explanation was that this was to prevent "sick stomach". These people were reported to use the clays for combating dysentery and food infections. In South America he found that the Quetchus Indians, believed to be descendants of the once powerful Incas, were largely vegetarians and he stated, "Immediately before eating, their potatoes are dipped into an aqueous suspension of clay, a procedure which is said to prevent 'souring in the stomach'." Yet, only comparatively recently has the white man apparently begun to use kaolin, one of the clays. I contain about 2.9964000000000004 of zinc.
Zinc metal is readily available commercially so it is not normally necesary to make it in the laboratory. Most zinc production is based upon sulphide ores. These are roasted in industrial plants to form zinc oxide, ZnO. This may be reduced with carbon to form zinc metal, but in practice ingenious technology is required to ensure that the resulting zinc does not contain oxide impurities. ZnO + C Zn + CO ZnO + CO Zn + CO2 CO2 + C 2CO The other type of extraction is electrolytic. Dissolution of crude zinc oxide, ZnO, in sulphuric acid gives zinc sulphate, ZnSO4 in solution. Cadmium is an impurity and this is removed as a precipitate of cadmium sulphate by the addition of zinc dust. Electrolysis of the ZnSO4 solution using aluminium cathodes and lead alloyed with silver anodes gives pure zinc metal coated on the aluminium. Oxygen gas is liberated at the anode. Very pure zinc may be formed from crude zinc by zone refining and single crystals can be grown with purities of better than 99.9999%. Centuries before zinc was recognized as a distinct element, zinc ores were used for making brass (a mixture of copper and zinc). A brass dating from between 1400-1000 BC has been found in Palestine. An alloy containing 87% zinc was found in prehistoric ruins in Transylvania. The smelting of zinc ores with copper was apparently discovered in Cyprus and was used later by the Romans. Metallic zinc was produced in the 13th century in India by reducing calamine (zinc carbonate, ZnCO3) with organic substances such as wool.
Black Jack: sphal•er•ite (sfăl'ə-r¨©t') n.The primary ore of zinc, occurring in usually yellow-brown or brownish-black crystals or cleavage masses, essentially ZnS with some cadmium, iron, and manganese. Also called blende, zinc blende.
Biological role Zinc is an essential element, necessary for sustaining all life. It is estimated that 3000 of the hundreds of thousands of proteins in the human body contain zinc. Food Sources The best and most abundant natural food source of zinc is oysters, although these bottom scavengers also accumulate toxic metals. Zinc is found in most animal proteins such as beef, pork and poultry. Other food sources of zinc include beans, nuts, whole grains, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Phytates, which are found in whole grain breads, cereals, legumes and other products, have been known to decrease zinc absorption. This, coupled with the fact that the human body absorbs zinc more easily from animal protein than from plant protein means that vegetarians are required to eat many more food sources containing zinc than non-vegetarians. Zinc salts are effective against pathogens in direct application. Gastrointestinal infections are also strongly attenuated by ingestion of zinc, and this effect could be due to direct antimicrobial action of the zinc ions in the GI tract, or to absorption of the zinc and re-release from immune cells (all granulocytes secrete zinc) or both. The direct effect of zinc (as in lozenges) on bacteria and viruses is also well-established, and has been used since at least 2000 BC, from when zinc salts in palliative salves are documented. However, exactly how to deliver zinc salts against pathogens without injuring one's own tissues is still being investigated.

I am in El Cerrito actually a few miles north of Berkeley proper.
I haven't used Zinc directly in all my days of supplementation. I would be interested to know of any personal experimentation. I know first hand about the benefits of ingesting clay. Bentonite clay in particular I have used on many occasions to great benefit. I went on a big spree of finding very pure "supplement" substances such as the clay, ester C powder, straight magnesium powder (taken with a little straight calcium), various herbs, etc. all in super pure single form. Collodial Silver is an interesting substance with even more interesting accounts. I didn't do this one for fear of turning my skin the pale blue gray color one gets if using it in the wrong way. Pau d'arco is an intense herb and very effective. All herbs best found local and wild, cut with respect, and used as fresh as possible. Although this ideal is difficult to hold to the results of say using sweet annie's herb's comfrey (sweet annie's is pretty good if you need to get it from a shop in State College) as opposed to finding some in the mountains fresh radically differ.
One herb I find particularly fascinating is Lady's Slipper. In making nervines (tonics or herbal formulae designed to effect and support the nerves) I came upon a sweet combination: Skull Cap Licorice Peppermint Oat Straw Valerian Chamomile Lady's Slipper (elusive, never able to get this missing ingredient, said to be illegal to sell because of it's "narcotic" effect) Make a tea with the above in equal parts and a smooth frame of mind is almost guaranteed. I used it in the throws of adrenal exhaustion when I was sick. Its a condition I wish upon nobody. You body goes into constant flight or fight, can't sleep, hallucinations. I just remember tossing and turning in bed not being able to breathe right, hallucinating a large evil wolf was standing over me. The tea helped a lot. You can't find the combination prepared but you can get the ingredients from any well to do herb shop. Lady's Slipper was touted as the key ingredient. I couldn't imagine it any more effective. Interested to know if anyone has come across it and taking some.
The Ester C powder is taken up to "bowl tolerance" which can vary from person to person. Such high doses of C are well documented in alternative medicine as great chelators. An MD friend of mind used to IV vit C and help diabetics regain the use of their legs.
Hope everyone is well

Joe -- The only run in I ever had with salvia div. was second hand on a road trip across the country to a rainbow gathering. Kordish and another Ben we were travelling with kept on creeping off into a field at the rest stops to smoke it. They said the spirit that governed the herb had to approve of the people partaking in it. If the spirit approved they would be wisked off into a DMT like episode, if not nothing would happen. Nothing wound up happening to Kordish although we did hear later the other Ben had success at the gathering while hanging high in a tree hammock. He spent most of the week in the hammock communing with this female spirit travelling through astral worlds (malakut to Sufis). All in all it seemed they almost had to kind of worship this spirit for anything to happen. Something that I find highly dangerous and not recommended.

Post by Fermented Foods on Jan 22, 2006 3:43:08 GMT -5
Here is a little on fermented foods--
You may know that the colon is a cultured part of the body. Meaning it actually has an ecosystem of bacteria that can either benefit us or be detrimental to us. Normally the colon is cultured with hundreds of beneficial bacteria that aid in digestion and assimilation, helping to regulate and maintain our body's health. About 1/3 of our body's immune function depends on the proper function of this ecosystem. Junk food, alcohol, antibiotics, non-steroid anti-inflammitory drugs (advil, tylenol, etc.), and a whole slew of other things we consume in the modern diet we consume can harm this delicate balance of bacteria. Anti-biotics kill off bacteria indescriminantly and allow harmful yeasts to mutate. These yeasts when mutated can perferate the intestinal wall and cause macro-molecules of food to get into the blood causing food allergies. Resistant bacteria can florish. Ever get bad gas after taking anti-biotics? Ever wonder why the MD suggests taking yogurt (fermented food) with the anti-biotics? These foods contain beneficial bacteria that actually take root in the intestines and continue to battle their opponents in the colon.
Fermented or Cultured foods have been used for centuries to aid in digestion and to aid recovery in digestive disorders. The beneficial bacteria in these foods if taken regularly can even produce systemic overhauls helping cancer, AIDS, chronic degenerative diseases. They are especially important these days with so many new degenerative diseases coming about. Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, candidiasis, chronic yeast infections, low immunity to colds and flus, are a few of these new degenerative cases. Any fermented food will do: Miso Umeboshi Plum and Plum Paste Yogurt Kefir "Pro-biotic" supplements Raw Sauerkraught (spelling?) Kim-Chee
All contain the beneficial bacteria that from my experience can highten energy levels, solve problematic digestive symptoms, and enhance the body's general immunity. It is easy enough to buy a few of these and work them into the daily diet.
Enjoy!
