An idea...(possibly down the road, but worthy of discussion, nonetheless)...
I think we all agree that it would be nice to have good gigs (financially redeeming) in State College. It's obvious that the Brewery is not working out for us as we would like, so... An option to consider:
Make Rocky understand how much we are worth to him. My uneducated estimate is that he makes at least $1500 more when we play then when we don't play (based on the fact that the Sokol club made $600 more when we played, and that is with $1 beers). I was at the Brewery Wednesday, and I was 1 of about 15 people there (remember, bill?). They need us. But Rocky thinks he has a monopoly for the Jam bands because they have no other choice if they want to play in State College. An idea to consider: book a gig at the Phyrst and/or Otto's (maybe for only $200 or so), but use it as leverage to Rocky to let him know that he's missing out on $1000's of beverage sales if he doesn't want to make a better offer then what he's been giving us. Plus, it may be an opportunity for other bars to see what we can do for them and make better offers, also. Perhaps, this deal will have to wait until we settle internal issues, but con! sider the idea and let's discuss everyones thoughts about it on the Planet22.biz message board. See ya there!

The difference between Planet 22 and a well known act is exactly what you see happening at the brewery.
A well known band can call up the brewery and say hey we're going to be coming into town in a couple of months. Can we setup a gig?
Then the owner of the brewery will say, sure, hows half a G sound?
Even if you did bring in tons of people, more then even a national act, it does not matter. He wont pay more because your not known well enough, and he already knows that you'll play for cheap. He'll continue to take of advantage of you if you dont straighten things out with him. Im sure if you take things seriously at the bewery, you could be making 400-500 a show. Forget about trying to cut some deal, like half the money at the door. Just go for a straight amount.

You guys are way off course here. Rocky is running a buisness. If local bands want to play for free how can he pass that up? Eli, A band for a night in a bar or restruant or private club is expected to earn at least 500$ . Not from their friends paying, but straight from the venue. If you approach a venue asking for 200$ they KNOW right away they have a sucker. I would like to try the vermont tour again but I'm not going to waste my time setting it up again to have you guys back out on me and James. This goes with our 2001 california tour that had to fold up at last minute. On another note... I have already negotiated details thoroughly for an August show at Denali. I realy want to go. I'm willing to comprime if you guys want to wait 5 years and then go, but the deal is on table.

Exuse me for butting in, BUT up here in ol' New England there are people who support the 22nd planet of the universe of infinite fuzz, and desperatly want the funky orbit to swing this way. I am all for a VT tour, but what about NH as well?? There is a venue here in Derry called Whippersnappers where Planet 22 could deffinitly rock out. Your foot in the door is a band called Eastern Sun. I went to see them this past Thursday eve...they're pretty cool. They play covers and origionals, jam out, and overall they're a pretty tight three piece. The only real down side to it is that the crowd never got out of their seats to boogie. Anyway, I spoke with their manager, and I gave them your website info and questioned them about getting you guys up here to split a gig with them. They're friendly folk who seem willing to trade a gig here for a gig there. If you're interested in this either contact them, or contact me and I'll do the leg work for you. I don't know if this gig will be "finacially redeeming" but it is an oppertunity to practice the marketing skills y'all are talking about here. [flash=200,200]URL[/flash]

Thanks a lot! That will be great if we can only get the rest of the Planet to spread thier wings. i don't think they've ever been out of west PA so I can understand they are scared, but I know they would love it once they got up here in the north. Live free or Die!
