SCREECHING WEASEL LYRICS
"I Love To Hate" - Screeching Weasel
Love to hate I love to hate Deck the halls with Sharon Tate Love to hate I love to hate Assasinate, decapitate I need a dog that I can kick I need some to make me sick The girl that fills me with disgust Will be the object of my lust I love to hate

Although there have been loads of noteworthy memories born out of my Chuck's experiences a few stand out:
If you don't remember the Dan Electro band they were almost Zeppelin like rockers. Pure blues and rock, rock star behavior but they actually had the skills to back it up mostly.
I was on lower level barn listening to a confused Chris tell me about the dog he was just talking to. He was quite excited and kept on saying, "you just don't understand man, you just don't understand". I went to the stage level still in the barn to see Chuck himself and Dan Electro standing about three feet apart from eachother just staring into one another's eyes. Chuck would get this confused look on his face and then strain as if trying to force something. Chuck would strain for awhile and then try again everytime ending with a great sigh and a look of disappointment. Dan, clad in full rock star gear, just stood stone faced staring into Chuck's eyes. I watched for a few minutes confused and figured there must be something I wasn't able to see going on. I left the barn and roamed out into the surrounding field where five minutes later Chuck and Dan, hand in hand, walked silently by off into the night. Several times during the evening they would emerge from the bushes or woods still walking hand in hand silently. Interesting time, Planet 22's debut Chuck's show.
My first Chuck's farm doubled as a regional rainbow gathering. There must have been 200 people there. I remember a Sun Dog kitchen buffet was set out for dinner and the last item being dished out by a gloved Chris Martinez was a rather potent 5 gallons or so of dosed tea. The combination of all the fresh faces, good weather, and great music made that fest my best of all time. I played with Dan Electro and company. Musically it was an incredible fest. The rainbow gathering spilled over into State College that year. It left loads of folks in town. This was a time when the west side of town was brimming. Some guy on west college was actually making acid and handing it out. Friday nights and Satuday nights nearly every door on west college ave was open and spilling over with rainbow kids. There was a woman named Lalynn who gathered the women regularly and taught them how to hold the love. The unity they held spread to all of us. 100-200 person potlucks on regular occasion with real peace and love. This vibe kept for mostly a year. Most of us so inspried by the strength of it we had dropped out of school and dedicated our lives to peace and love. Lalynn left in the fall of the following year and with that the women ceased to gather. It turns out it was their efforts and focus on creating community unity that kept the whole thing so intimate between all of us. Things fizzled out. For a time after it seemed as though those interested in the unity vanished. Heavier, more addictive drugs crept into town and plagued the experimenters. Bands broke up right and left. The fallout was nasty. It was at this time Planet 22 emerged from nowhere ushering in a new phase. Didn't spend much time with the band. I carried a saddness during that whole time about what had happened to the community. I brushed up my Jazz chops and headed for Philly. Got to Philly and began playing jazz exclusively. I used to play at a club called ortlieb's in north philly. I practiced anywhere from eight to twelve hours a day trying to hang with the heavy hitters at the club where Coltrane cut heads. It worked out well until the Jazz environment became too tight for me. Its hard to explain but I guess it was missing that feeling of pure peace and love I am such a sucker for. My belief is that the best music isn't limited by genre but dependent on if the musician "knows who the one is who is playing".
Peace

I like when Perry went through the windshield of that car when he slammed into a telephone pole.

I think it was a couple years ago. A band played before planet 22 and were pretty good. In the fifteen minutes between the two bands their singer/rhythm guitar player turned a wicked corner and came back beligerant. Hopped on stage with planet 22 grabbed a mic and proceeded to rap; "planet 22 ahh planet 22 ahh planet 22 they're down with you ahh planet 22" That went on for about 10 minutes. Then he got off stage and passed out right in front of it for the next 4 hours.

My all-time favorite would have to be in 1999 when the stage collapsed while agent porridge was playing and joe grabbed the PA and and acted as a ground while he stood in a puddle of water electricuting the crap out of himself.
Another funny moment that same year would have to be the dancing 40 costume on stage while DP played and had keg stands during thier songs.

Another fond memory I have is one year starting a full out tackle football game at 8am. Quite a disaster.

Another funny, yet dangerous moment was when Ishan was stumbling around a campfire with a can of gasoline. Rather amusing.
And lest we not forget when Ryan picked Gopal up like his very own baby in his arms and carried him to saftey after he found Gopal passed out naked under the wheel of a Ryder Truck.

One of my favorite moments (now that it is past the fact) was when shady and mahon thought it would be hilarious to huff gas and I took the bottle away from them. They kept harassing me for it so in a moment of pure genius I decided to pour the bottle out onto the ground. I did not realize this would then set the dirt on fire if someone would light a match. The two boys blamed the whole situation on me and did not realize how upset I was. Finally someone else solved the situation by putting other soil on top of this soil (bless your soul whoever it was). By this time I am crying and Shady is consoling me by trying to light this mound of dirt on fire. good times, great memories.

I don't have many memorable Chuck's Farm moments because most of my memories are hazy and incoherent. But from what i remember the funniest moment i've encountered was last year as the sun was rising after Alchemy...Mike Frank was a gold-star passed out wook that morning and Keller was busy piling cans/bottles/trash/etc on his head and shoulders in a stunning feat of balance. There's a picture of it floating around somewhere...i'll see if i can find it and post it.

I would have to say that I laughed my ass off when shady started up one of the tractors on chuck's farm. He then proceeded to drive it with a piece of straw in his mouth....PRICELESS

--I would have to mention the time my girlfriend tara and i got lost in the fields behind the stage/camp for about an hour. We were very mentally disjointed at the time, and it took several whiles for us to relocate our brains.
---The motorcycle through the hoop was a legendary moment for all time.
--About 2 years ago, p22 was playing a really reaaaally slow version of Muffin Jugs? at around 6 am, and it just got dirtier and dirtier, and i think there were only about 10 of us watching the show any more, and i thouht it was the best moment of music all night, really good and unusual imho.
--i really liked the unusual stage composition a few years ago too, when there were those large white 'things' arching overhead.
--i really really liked the original Bizantine Empire performance, a legendary jam of which Calleher donated me a cd. I will gladly burn a copy if people email me at unoclay@hotmail.
