Steve i am with you on this one. We should simply make a plan. How about we start with the basics: each of us bring a box of garbage bags (heavy duty or the equivalent)? And perhaps get special colors/different colors for recylables.
We should also make a spot where bags of recycleables can be collected. This may have to wait until we get to the farm. Perhaps making signs to note the area would be helpful.
Chris Kally-her and all others who help do the setup should be involved in decisions as to the "where" recycleables should be dropped off.
So: #1 We bring bags #2 We identify a spot for recyclables to be collected (separate spot for trash) #3 We make sign(s) to identify the spot (cardboard boxes and markers will make signs) #4 We spend time each day notifying people where to put their recycleables #5 We gather a group of folks each night/day to go around and gather the trash into these spots. Special focus on the stage area throughout the night.
The bigger idea would be to have 'recycleables only' barrels near the concert area b/c this tends to be the messiest spot once everyone gets their drink-on. Unfortuntately i dont know how to make this happen, i dont have barrels? Any ideas?

Excellent idea my friends!
Which leads to another important and useful point to this upcoming festival.
Can someone please MC the darn thing?!?!?!?
We have a play this year occuring at noon, we need to announce where to recycle, there will be food cooked in the Kitchen throughout the weekend. All these things would be excellent to be announced on stage in between bands.
So how about it?
Who wants to MC Chuck's Farm? Tell Jokes, ect.
I vote for Chris Warner!!!!!!!
Anyone else vote?

well, before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's talk to karen or chuck, because this is a very important and often overlooked aspect of the chuck's farm experience. does anyone remember from the '05 Harvest, did they have trash/recycle barrells on site? i'm thinking yes, but let's ask chuck, CHUCK!!!! in the meantime, let's keep brainstorming... -we should have a few designated areas to collect trash throughout the farm, "trash sites", with labbeled barrels, cardboard signs, and lots trashbags. have one up by the stage, and a couple thoughout the camparea, maybe one down at the kitchen. and then have the main trash collecting area, the ocean to which all rivers lead, located directly next the entrance where people drive in and out. there can be a tent settup there any way, and some degicankian/uno-bopper/panagian posted at the tent (boo) can park cars entering and give exiting cars a bag of goodies to take home. so, all the trash will be filtering back to the entrance throughout the event and distributed to people as they leave the building, as to avoid over-accumlation leading to possible threats of there never being another chuck's farm... so here's my deal, i'm on board to arrive at chuck's sat, after midnight....then play with TDS and DegiClassical, so i will not be available to work pre-chucks. i'll be on the second wave of CCC '06, from sunday morning through post-chucks. GIT 'ER DUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how about t-shirts? or headbands? -we'll make frequent announcements over the mic and throughout camp organizing cleanup crews and where the "trash sites" and recycling barrels are located so that it is engrained in their brains on how to keep it clean.

I'm happy to hear about the attention paid to clean-up. You all know how important it is to Chuck that the place be cleaned up. Recyclables seem important to me. It didn't seem like there was much recycling with the mini-fests, the fundraisers, this year. Not too sure. I only attended 2, and I've not attended the Harvest Festival in many years and won't likely be there this year either. However, I'm here to get messages to Chuck, so I'll ask him about recyclables last year and how he wants it done this year. Steve's ideas sound really good on this to me.

Ok i am definitely not being an MC, thanks for the vote of confidence but the sith cat (ask me later) will not permit such behavior. Chris Waerner and Lou are good at MCing but Lou will not be in any shape to do it, do NOT offer him the job unless you want it to be a bit insane (perhaps this would be appropriate). I guarentee he will call us "hippies". Waerner is responsible and has a very audible voice. He is the best candidate so far if we are talking about a legit announcer. Krusty is naturally funny as well, as is DrCank. So any of those choices would be good. Caleher you would be good at it too as the current organizer of many items.
Perhaps someone should make a few laminated cards of information for a/the MC to read (i.e. recyclables, trash, etc) and have them by the stage?
Anyway, back to the trash thing....I will be arriving 10-12 PM on Friday (work and drive from Philly) so i cannot help with setup. I think the most important factor is to #1 have locations clearly marked for trash drop-off (big signs), and #2, have people aware that they should separate trash and recycleables (i.e. reminded at the gate). I will gladly do gate duty for a little while if necessary once i get there, so long as i can drink my Jolly Scot while doing so.
On Saturday, i will walk around and encourage recycling by punching Lou in the face. This is the universal language code for "Cans and bottles in one bag, dirty tampons in another"
But seriously i will walk around and collect/encourage. Also will make signs if still necessary. If i can get use of a truck or something, I will also drive recyclables into Rebersburg, and will pay the gas to do it.
So far, Steve F and myself will not be there in advance of show. Who can commit to being there early enough to identify recycling/trash locations and set up signs? We need commitments with names people. Otherwise we will all think someone else is taking care of it.
Clay's Purity Pledge: I will bring 30 trash bags, gloves for myself, and markers with which to make signs. I will verbally encourage people to recycle. I will go around and pick up a bunch of dirty recycleables and put them into bags. I will pull the bags over to the drop location. I will drive someone's truck to Rebersburg and deposit recycles at the spot. I will put gas into the truck.
Who else will take the pledge

I vote for Kalley-Her in the Top hat as MC.
Also, vote for Uncle James.
I could vote for BOO as MC.
Laminated cue cards is a great idea if we can get it together. - Recycling info - Appropriate/Inappropriate color wafer - A few zanny DegIcank-ism's - Jokes for tense moments and in between bands - Random statements to surprise the MC - Sh*tter location - Kitchen menu - Request for Kitchen Donations - General Heckling from Lou (maybe we could have messages from Lou written down and delivered by Warner and other MCs)

as i will be arriving late sat night, my first duties are to play music, following that i'll be clocked in for cleanup, i'm thinking around dawn/early sun.
steve f's purity pledge: i will bring a box of garbage bags. i will help round up volunteers to periodically "comb" the farm. i will drag bags of dirty tampons and recyclables down to the entrance site for distribution. i will verbally inform participants about what they can do to help out, remind people where the trash collection sites are, and request they take a bag of souveners home with them. i will hang around all day sunday until the job's done or the sun goes down, whichever comes first.
WE NEED PEOPLE TO PLEDGE FOR THURS/FRI PRE-CHUCK's CLEANUP PREPARATIONS!!!!!!!!

Ha ha i got someone to take a purity pledge thats thweeet
i think it will work out. The mess will not become intense until late Friday night, at which time, many of us will become messy as well. Thus just having a concept of clean-up in place is most important. Please remind me that i committed to help with this if you dont see me doing it. I have a funny memory, funny in the sense that it likes to hide.

I am officially cleaning up with the clean up crew sunday, and since my friends can't leave without me that's 5 people total. And I'll bring any supplies for cleaning I have.

Word to Nur. I personally cant stay all day on Sunday so i plan to put in my best efforts on Saturday.
The biggest help now would be for someone to locate a truck we can use for hauling the recycleables to Rebersburg.
