Maybe the open jam could be anyone from the bands that were invited to play or anyone that any of the bands invited? It doesn't seem to be particularly easy to place restrictions on that kind of thing, but hopefully, musicians will know their role and give it up when it is time. And yes, Decepticon is my other band. We have about 5 covers and the rest are open improv jams. (minimal key changes Our keys player has a rhodes, korg triton, and mini korg synth, so maybe you could hop on one of those for a bit to kick off the open jam or something.

bentheman, i think that's a good idea, open to bands and other musicians invited by the bands, restrictions do contradict the idea of an "open jam" but this way we can atleast maintain quality control and avoid "completely open jam" disasters, so people will hang out and listen instead of running away in fear. i will definetly help kick things off or contribute to the jam at somepoint, i'm glad you're making this part of the lineup. also keep in mind, byzantine empire is pretty much the same thing we're taking about, an open jam with loose perameters (meaning no random hippie's off the street). so, you should get it on that as well. also, i'm planning on being in state college next weekend, 9/7, so if you're around we should hang out and play. think you'll be in town? and thanks for taking the ball on putting things together.

yo ben, if i come down this weekend is it cool if i jam on your keyboardist's gear, or should i bring my own? tell him or her that i'll be gentle...but if he or she is particular about that i can haul my rhodes down if i have to. part of my trip down includes purchasing some large west african drums which will take up the limited space in my rabbit. oh yeah, my friend djembe chuck is interested in doing some west african drumming at chuck's farm. nothing to put on the lineup or stage, just something we might do in the afternoon on saturday, the hippies will love it...

Steve, we have a keyboard at our place, but it is our old keyboardist's (who was recently "let go,")so I'm not sure how that will pan out, but my keyboardist in the other band has a triton and rhodes, so I'm sure I can swing something. As far as drumming goes, of course he can set up wherever and hippies will flock to him faster than you can say patchouli, but if he wants the stage, I believe it is open in the early afternoon Saturday and whenever on Sunday.
If you are around on Saturday night, we are playing a show at Golden Wok with Tom Connolly after teh Notre Dame game, so you can definitely swing by and sit in. We're doing a bunch of originals, a Fela tune, Some Kool and the Gang, and of course our Jaco standard.

YO! Steve, the show up here is actualy on SUNDAY at 1pm, so I hope you can still come up. Also tell Djembe Chuck to please join p22 for our set, and any other hand drummers. Some songs are at www.geocities.com/rjs121576/planet22.html to practice on. I started writing some charts, I'll try to mail you that Fishlips cd asap... Ben, I'm getting down with Chameleon, maybe we can do it on sat. morning/early after noon so my daughter Ava can check it out. You do it in Bb right? Did you hire a new drummer? Mike Computer Guy said he might be able to access some awesome lights for Chuck's...

Yeah! Maybe you can borrow Daily Supplement Brian's synth bass pedal... I can only handle the top (right) hand,(studio version) not like Herbie, so you are stuck with the bass: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcjkA5ZAWQoAlso , maybe we should follow up, embedd, or tease Cellphone's Dead by Beck, it uses the chamelon drum beat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHQxWA-z9jI

joe, send me the fishlips cd, i can probably figure out anything i don't already know, maybe add a few footnotes or hints for the tougher more obscure tunes...remember, i used to sleep directly above the basement where p22 practiced when caleb lived at my house on barnyard, so whatever material i haven't absorbed consciously, i was atleast exposed to in the dream state...are the gwinns making the trip up that weekend? i heard rumors of a conflicting event that same weekend, clay's birthday bash, but i'm up for going to VT if everyone else is on board, and it'd be cool to carpool with them if possible. and just to double check, it's the weekend of the 21st right?
ben, i may come down to SC today if everything aligns, i'll give you a call if it does. i might rather do that than push my luck with the Notre Dame weekend. either way, we'll definetly chill. also, i cut my left hand at work, so i'm an 8 and a half fingered keyboardist until next week, then i'll be back in full force. lesson=knives are sharp

Joe,
Still not sure about Chameleon. Like many funk bands we kind of beat it to death a while ago and the thought of starting to play it again isn't real appetizing, but I can run it by everyone. If it happens, I have a synth pedal of my own and I think Brian's may have actually gotten stolen at some point..
Steve, I guess I may see you sooner than our show at Golden wok, but if not, you should sit in on Mercy Mercy Mercy and The Chicken and whatever else. Just let me know.

joe, we should save chamelon for byzantine or the open jam friday night after decepticon...it will add some flavor to the pot...don't forget bout other herbie funkadelic favorites like...watermelon man, cantelope island...i know both well, we should give em a whirl...
ben, scratch the pre-mature SC venture, so i will be there to "Wok and Woll" with y'all this saturday, keys will already be present? should be rollin into SC friday around 11pm...by then i should be fully finger functional...first time back since 06 chucks...

Sounds good, lets save Chameleon for the open jam or BE set or next year even, the timeframe is irrelevent at Chuck's as I'm sure you've observed. It is like the alcheringa, Dreamtime place described by Australian aboriginal peoples. "The anthropologist and historian W.H. Stanner preferred "the Dreaming" to "the Dreamtime" and saliently describes it as "the Everywhen".[2] This is an apt and evocative approximation to what the Indigenous Australian Peoples refer to in translation as the "All-at-once" Time which is experienced as a co-existing confluence of past, present and future. This does not counter the Indigenous Australians Peoples concept of linear time, but it informs and qualifies it. Indigenous Australians considered the Everywhen of the Dreaming to be objective, whilst linear time was considered a subjective construction of waking consciousness of one's own lifetime. This is in the converse of the European concept which views dreams as subjective and linear time as objective."

so, the "wok" is the new hang or has it always been? is it 21 and older or all inclusive? around what time will CHinafunk 07 start crankin'? do i need to bring my "wak" pedal>? i've recently been feeding different affects pedals through the rhodes, making it more versitale...delay is the new toy, distortion and wah in the mix of course. i guess the keys player from the duo runs a lot of affects...anyone know what his pedal setup is?
