hi everyone,
I'm glad to see the date announced for this year's festival. And I am more than happy to donate as many trash bags as possible. I have access to plenty of them. I am planning on being up on the evening of the second, it would be no problem to bring as many bags as i could gather over the summer... I'm sure we would have plenty of bags for the whole weekend.
Just let me know... take it easy.
P.s.- if you guys need anything like paper towels, dish soap, tissues or toilet paper...just say the word.

Hi, y'all
I dropped by Otto's Brewery again yesterday and got a pile more grain sacks for use as heavy duty trash bags . . . I have almost a hundred now, so we should be set.
Now all I need is lots of people willing to fill up a trash bag or two with trash, then TAKE THE TRASH AWAY WITH THEM WHEN THEY LEAVE! ;-) I'm thinking I will make another sign up "free trash bags at the kitchen" and deliver my rant in person when they get one.
If other people are also passing trash bags out and encouraging all those party people to fill them up and take them away, then so much the better.
I would love an artistic oriented person to make up a nice, pretty "Rainbow Sinkhole Kitchen" sign to put out at the road. The crude <peace sign> <heart> "free food" sign I had last year was functional, but not very pretty. ;-)
If anyone wants to kick down supplies to the kitchen, one thing we could always use is paper plates and plastic forks/knives/spoons and cups. There is a little "bliss-ware" silverware around, but it's usually dirty. Paper towels and dish soap are also gratefully appreciated. As far as cooking supplies goes, veg oil is always in short supply.
Thanks for the offer of supplies and help, everyone.
I'm starting to get excited about this year's Sunflower Farm Music Festival (Chuckstock)!
Blessed Be
Dr. Suitcase

I left this message for Chuck on Facebook (whoa! Chuck's on Facebook!) but I wanted to copy it here, too. I've had a few people send me messages on the Facebook event page with bands interested in playing this fall. I spoke with Jack over Arts Fest and mentioned that I'd passed the names along online...whenever people start meeting/discussing lineups, I'd be happy to help if necessary, make signs, whatever. Here are the ones that contacted me... The bands are: ripplemusic.blogspot.com/2009/06/kilego-vert-journey-to-deepest-part-of.html www.myspace.com/dotnationwww.myspace.com/theroaringkittensALSO - there were some comments about people hoping for good DJs during the late-night lineup (on the main stage), which begs the question...will the plan remain as last year to keep the second "rave" area at the bottom field, instead of the sinkhole area as it was two years ago? I know that the trashed kitchen and the noise 'til dawn conflicting with the sound from the main stage were two reasons it was moved to the bottom, nearer to the stream. Still a good idea, imo....just want to pass along the right info. Of course, DJs as part of the main stage/lineup are good, too... Getting more and more excited, and it's not even August yet! :-)

Hi, Ms Cosmo
Actually, last year the rave DJ still set up in the Sinkhole opposite of the kitchen. I tried to get him to move down to the lower field area, but he pulled a big fat attitude and refused to listen to reason. As expected.
He didn't set up until Sat evening, though. And since I usually flee the scene by shortly after dark on Sat, I "missed" the rave music.
I did hear after the fact that last year the rave zombies didn't destroy the kitchen area, unlike the year before. I hope the fair folk (seeliegh sidhe) I called in to protect the kitchen and sinkhole didn't get TOO rough with them. ;-)
I look forward to Chuckstock again this year. And if it takes steady rain to keep the ravers from setting up, then I'll be out there dancing for rain Friday afternoon! I've got a couple of tarps to keep the kitchen area dry.
Of course, best for everyone is that the ravers would relocate to the lower field and we can all pray for dry weather.
Blessed Be
Dr. Suitcase

Well...big fat attitudes aren't welcome at Chuck's, are they? ;-)
Anyway...yeah, I remember hearing the music Saturday night, but I think that was the night I slept odd hours so I may have missed some of the rave sounds drifting out of the sinkhole. I enjoy the rave music *in moderation* so imo, it'd be fine to have them around *somewhere*...but farther from the main stage seems smarter to me, so the sounds don't interfere. That bass travels SO far and loud, and people don't want to hear it from the main stage while they're listening to another band. Maybe there will be time the weekend prior to Chuckstock to hash out some specific area for them at the bottom field...with Chuck's blessing, of course. :-) People should be able to enjoy whatever music they want to hear, but the two shouldn't interfere with each other. (again, just my opinion. :-) )
I'm trying to get a hold of some materials for making you a better kitchen sign!! If I can get something done, I'll let you know!

Thanks, Ms Cosmo
I've got the spare door. I can get the paint. What I lack is the artistic talent to make something attractive.
I may throw caution to the wind and take a stab at it anyway . . . it's gotta look better than the half-hearted spraypaint sign I slapped together last minute (with the rain washing away the paint, which was sprayed on wet wood anyway) last year.
I'm thinking two signs. The first would have some pretty art (a rainbow perhaps) and:
Rainbow Sinkhole Kitchen <peace> <love> Free Food
The second would be smaller:
Please Be Kind to Chuck Pick Up Trash Take It Away With You (See the kitchen for trash bags)
;-)

Dr. Suitcase,
My friend has immense artistic talent, and I relayed your need for a decent sign highlighting the way for the kitchen and such. Once I have him read these posts, and if he does whip up a drawing, I will definitely foward a picture of it to you and see if it meets with yer approval.
Namaste, Jay

Hi, Jay
Many thanks to your friend. I look forward to seeing what he/she comes up with. Of course, anything is better than what I had last year.
My email address is dr_suitcase@hotmail.com
I put the first coat of background white paint on a door for use as a sign, myself. I will probably still do my best and complete it . . . two signs would be better than one!
Easton, thanks for the offer. I look forward to seeing you down in the kitchen . . . if you decide that your energies are better put to some of Chuck's other needs, that's fine too. At the very least, fill up a couple of trash bags and take them home! ;-)
I'm pretty sure that Chuck will have a work-party sometime shortly before Chuckstock, to get the land ready for the party. You might want to join him at that, too.
I'll keep my ears to the ground, and once I know when the work paty is, I will post it here. I think there is also a MySpace page out there somewhere, for Chuckstock.
See you all there!

It looks like you folks are moving forward. Please let me know if I can offer any long distance support. As you may or may not know I put together "Fall Sampler" CDs and "Back to School Speacial"Data-CDS to hand out at Chuck's Farm. Please pass on to any musicians or video artists to send in mp3/ or vid- links to degicank@gmail.com as soon as possible. I try to send the discs to press in late August once the band line up is set, but if you send in the music early we have less last minute varibles to deal with. Thank you Cosmo and Dr. Suitcase for creating all of this virtual and brick and mortar infrastructure... Take care, Joe www.PLANET22.bizwww.DEGIMEDIA.com

Thanks, Joe! ;D Aside from having a few bands contact me on Facebook, which I've passed along here and to Chuck, I haven't heard any word about the lineup, what local bands are interested in playing, etc etc etc. I have another band to add to the list: the tweeds "we would really love to play chuck's farm, we went last year and had a blast and so we would love to play this year! we are a psychedelic shoegaze post rock band from malvern, pa" myspace.com/tweedsband (I'll send that to Chuck on FB, too.) Joe, Suitcase: do either of you know if Chuck has other bands in mind (or if other bands have Chuck's in mind)? I guess my point is that I'm willing to help with the organization of it all, if that's what's needed. I spoke to Jack a few weeks ago and he said that generally, y'all meet to get it all hashed out a few weeks prior, at least. (Since it's early Oct. this year, I guess there is a bit more time...) We talked about getting good signs made up to hang next to the stage - and a big freaking clock - to help keep things moving and keep bands on track with when they start and stop and how much time they have between them. I know that a major problem has been keeping things moving along as the night wears on. I don't have the benefit of knowing how it's been done in past years since I'm usually just camping in my own little world ...but I'm a secretary, so I'm good with a schedule! lol And with your's and Chuck's and Jack's help, I'm sure we can pull it together. Most of the bands are on facebook or myspace anyway, and I have event pages set up on both, so that will help get the word out. (Hell, there are 251 "Yes" and 238 "Maybe" attending on FB already lol) Soooo....there's a chance I'll see Jack this weekend since Jim's coming in to town, maybe we'll chat some more about it. Oh, and the most important question of all: When will Planet 22 play?!?! (...not counting the Pirate Stage...) Thoughts? Sandy... I mean, Cosmo...whatever. ;-) haha

Greetings, my band ATM (live electronic dance music from NJ) would love to be considered for the fest. We were just at Chuck's this past June when we played the post-Bisco party and we had a blast. A few years back I played in Dr. Naqleus and two of the best shows we ever had we Chucks '04 and '05, the latter being our last gig ever. So yeah, i definitely would love to have my current project back there, Chuck-willing of course! www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=92471723446#/pages/ATM/27002268589?ref=share-Tom

Suitcase et. al.: I just noticed that a Disco Biscuits show has been announced for the State Theatre on Sunday, August 4th. I don't know how the event at Chuck's in June turned out, but I imagine that this show will bring even more people to Chuckstock who will then be heading out to the State Theatre on Sunday night. www.thestatetheatre.org/Events/viewevent.php?id=546I assume that Chuck does *not* want a ton of people coming back out to the Farm after the show on Sunday and staying there until Monday morning? If someone can confirm that with Chuck that would be great...I'm sure people will be trying to make plans. Just wanted to mention it to everyone! I myself will be staying at Chuck's for most of the day on Sunday but will definitely be going HOME to relax and recover before work Monday morning! ;-) This is probably even more of a reason to get band stuff sorted out by the end of this month...also so Joe can work on the CDs he wants to burn!
