Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it. :-)
If and when we can enjoy a Harvest Festival again, it will help to learn from this year (and previous years) and keep these things in mind for next time.
I was hoping that people would take time to leave some thoughts about this year's Chuck's, tell us what went right and what went wrong, what's needed and/or can be improved upon, etc. etc. etc.
And please, be friendly! :-) We all know there are things to improve upon for next time...let's just write those things down so we have some place to start next time.
Remember that Chuck would like to keep this festival as open and free as possible, which means we probably won't be doing things like bringing in dumpsters and port-o-potties. What we *should* do is make sure that the farm is laid out as clearly as possible, and that information is disseminated to people ahead of time, so that people who've never been there can figure out where to go without relying on word-of-mouth once they've already parked their car in the wrong spot.
For example:
-the street parking can't happen, so adequate no-parking signs, orange tape, and/or flags are needed the entire length of Chuck's property
-entrances need to be clearly marked
-fields where parking is allowed need to be clearly marked
-fields that are not Chuck's property need to be roped off
-grass needs to be mowed in all parking areas
-shitters need to be placed wherever they go
-kitchen needs to be cleaned up before the fest, water line installed, and a crew of volunteers needs to be in place to work through the whole weekend - including cleanup
Those are just some of the things I can think of off the top of my head. I think there needs to be a crew of people - Chuck in charge, of course! - who commit to getting out there and working the weekend prior to Harvest Fest, or as much time ahead as necessary, to get the stage set up, the sound area, all that stuff...
once an event like this gets this big, there is a lot of work to do that can't be put off until the day before, and it's too much for just two or three people.
Suggestions, anyone? :-)
