I'm sorry I missed the work party last weekend - I hope lots of good prep got done.
Unfortunately, I will be out of town the next work party, Aug 13, as well. In fact, I may not be able to get out to Chuck's until Sept 3, if then.
Did anybody make it down to the sinkhole kitchen? Chuck said that there was a big tree down all over the middle of the kitchen - there's good and bad about that - good if it gets cleaned up but all the firewood is left for us to cook with - bad if it doesn't get all cleaned up and is all in the way of making the kitchen happen.
It would be nice if there was a water line run down to the kitchen by Friday evening - but I'm not sure where all the line is from 2 years ago when it was run last. In years past it's been pretty badly chopped up by Chuck's plowing.
For the festival proper, I won't be able to make it out until later Friday afternoon - I'll have supplies to do a stirfry with rice that night and we will have to see what manifests for Sat meal - and like usual I won't be sticking around much after dark Sat.
See you all soon enough!
Blessed Be

Thanks for putting all this work into making Chuck's Harvest Festival happen this year - and including the kitchen in your work.
Does Chuck have any water service anywhere on his farm? It would be good to know that the kitchen is going to have to haul water in from outside ahead of time - and it limits what the kitchen can do about cleanup and prep for the next meal. Not to mention the fact that everything will have to be cleaned before the first meal can happen.
I took a look at my schedules and I will be out of town for Sept 3 weekend as well - so I guess I won't be able to be there until Chuckstock proper - sorry about that.
Blessed Be

You will be out of town for Chuckstock proper? Too bad! We will miss you.
Chuckstock isn't for relaxation for me - Chuckstock is for working my ass off and cooking massive amounts of food to feed all the starvling hippies (and emptying out my freezers of all that lovely meat I've been hoarding all year, so I can cook it all for all of you!).
I've found some rice, so the Friday night big meal will be a stirfry/fried rice thingie. We will have to see what good veggies I can find to fry up with it all! ;-) [Not to mention what baked goodies I can scrounge to bring to serve to all and sundry].
My biggest needs will be for clean water and firewood - since it looks like I will have to haul in water for cooking and cleaning, and I haven't had a chance to gather firewood all Summer like I have in the past.
See you all there!
Blessed be

Thanks for getting all that wood stacked up and ready - good news.
I have secondary confirmation that there isn't any water service to Chuck's Farm any more. I suspect that the leak in the basement became so big that the neighbor across the road shut off the water to conserve that precious and limited resource. I'll scrounge up some 5 gallon food grade buckets and plan on bringing in 20 or 30 gallons of water for the kitchen use - we will have to be more careful about water use, but I think it will be OK.
It would be nice to find someone else to hand the kitchen off to on Sat - I plan on cooking Friday night, but I will be fleeing the scene by dark on Sat. I know from past experiance thats about all I can handle - by then I'm pretty burned out. ;-)
See you all in the kitchen!
Blessed Be

Even more great news - it really sounds like things are shaping up wonderfully for Chuckstock this year.
Good news on the wood and the rest of the kitchen situation - I'm not suprised that the cooking fireplace needs to be rebuilt - since a tree fell on it and everything. I hope the grating is still in useable condition - other than that it should be fine.
I trust that the great big WOK survived the experiance, and is present and in decent shape - that is the linch pin of the Rainbow Sinkhole Kitchen!
If there is someone who wants to help out/take over the kitchen for Sat night, that's even better news! Please pass along my email address (dr_suitcase@hotmail.com) so we can touch base prior to Chuckstock.
It's a bit early yet to do so, but I expect to go into maximum aquisition mode soon, and start daily dumpster diving to get my stocks of baked goods, veggies, and other goodies up so I've got lots of yummy stuff to feed peoples.
I'm starting to get excited!
Blessed Be
