The Chuck's Farm FAQ
.by Chucks Farm on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 9:20am.The Sunflower Farm Harvest Festival returns on the weekend of September 9-11, 2011!
***** DO NOT ATTEND WITHOUT READING THE RULES & FAQ, PLEASE!!! *****
1. Who is invited?
Anyone, provided you are ***over 18 years old***, (children ok with a parent or guardian), you appreciate live music and you don't mind sleeping in a field in autumn. The only requirement is that YOU READ THIS ENTIRE FAQ! We want to make sure everyone knows the rules BEFORE getting there so we all have a great time!!
2. How much are tickets?
Tickets, like always, will be FREE. Chuck's Farm is a practice in COMMUNITY and Chuck firmly believes that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy good music, food and people without having to pay for it. Show up with a good attitude and respect!!
3. How do I get there?
Sunflower Farm is located outside of Rebersburg, PA. Find your way there & home SAFELY.
Rte. 192, on which Chuck's Farm is located, can be a dangerous road. Amish buggies, tractors, local traffic and deer are just some of the things to look out for. Be extremely cautious while driving at night - the entrance to Chuck's is VERY EASY TO MISS. Take it slowly and soberly. No wheelies. Check the map, slow down, and try to bring everything you need so you don't have to head out for supplies! We want everyone to be safe, and we want Chuck & the local residents to feel safe, too. :-)
If you're still not sure how to get there, ask a friend!
4. How do I get permission to camp?
Everyone is invited to camp (tent camping, next to your vehicle) free-of-charge, provided you follow the explicit directions given to you here and by Chuck himself!!! This is always Rule Numero Uno!! The setup will be open field camping with no set campsites.
5. Is there a secret password? This seems too good to be true!
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
6. How do I enter and park on Chuck's property?
DO NOT PARK ON THE ROAD. IT IS ILLEGAL AND YOU **WILL** BE TOWED!!
MAKE SURE YOUR VEHICLE HAS ENOUGH GROUND CLEARANCE!! 4WD is recommended. Rainy conditions make the field roads difficult. (Seriously, I saw a gorgeous, shiny black Audi try to navigate the muddy, sloppy mess of 2009 and the poor car must have never been the same. I think he's STILL out there...)
The PROPERTY BORDERS of Chuck's Farm MUST be respected!!! Neighboring farmers DO NOT tolerate campers driving/walking/running dogs on their fields and potentially destroying crops. Please stay within the property of Sunflower Farm and when in doubt - ask! We hope to erect fences or tape to block off problem areas.
The small areas nearest to the road (before the tree line) are now off-limits to regular campers. This is a new decision by Chuck, intended to keep traffic away from the main road where it has severely impacted local traffic on Route 192 during past festivals. There may be some exceptions to this based solely on Chuck's discretion (i.e. some family, volunteers, musicians, etc.).
All regular campers will be directed towards the grassy fields at the bottom of the property once you pull in. Please make every attempt to come in to Chuck's WITH the people you want to park next to, so that we can fill in the fields from bottom to top as fully as possible. (Or don't, and make new friends with your neighbors!)
7. Is Re-entry allowed?
Yes, Re-entry is allowed. Please be patient while lines of campers are entering the property.
8. Can I have a camp fire?
There are established fire pits throughout the fields and no new fire pits should be be constructed. Approved, established fire pits are surrounded by stones. There are some larger fire pits intended for shared use by groups of campers. You must bring your own firewood as most of the nearby woods are picked over from previous years. Fires must be kept under a maximum height of 3 feet. There will also be a large community fire above the stage.
9. My dog has issues with being left at home. Can I please bring him/her?
Of course! Dogs are allowed but make sure to follow a few simple guidelines:
* Make sure your dog is comfortable around hundreds of people, camp fires, other dogs, small kids, cold, rain, being outside all night.
* Bring bags to clean up after your dog, as much as we love animals no one likes stepping in their remains. :-)
* Bring food, water and something to serve both in, don't have your puppy scrounge around for food.
* Make sure that you will be able to care for the dog in the state of mind you expect to be in.
* Have a back-up plan just in case your dog cannot tolerate being at the festival.
* Do not leave your dog alone, even when you're sleeping, getting hammered, or doing the funky dance with the guy in the next tent.
* Respect others that are not dog friendly; don't expect everyone to want to meet your dog.
* If your dog is causing a problem, you may be asked to remove it from the property. Lyons Kennels in Bellefonte might have open space if you need to board your pet.
10. I want to sell food/merchandise/backrubs/etc.; how do I get a vending booth?
Vending of any kind is PROHIBITED. This weekend is about community and sharing, not money and profit. The festival ground will be governed by the community, if anyone is seen vending, you will be kindly told to leave the property.
11. What will I eat?!
If you don't bring a camp stove to cook your own food, never fear! Dr. Suitcase & the Rainbow Sinkhole Kitchen are here! Bring donations of basic ingredients: vegetables, beans, meat, eggs, potatoes, rice, pasta, oil, herbs and spices, sauces, fruit, baked goods...anything!! Please bring your own bowl/utensils to reduce waste. Dr. Suitcase and friends will be cooking up some wonderful concoctions of whatever they can dream up based on what YOU bring! Breakfast...lunch...dinner....the more donations, the more food. It's as easy as that.
12. What's the weather like out there?
Some Harvest Festivals have seen daytime temperatures near 80 degrees, but some nights have been as cold as 20!! Prepare for it to be quite chilly at night - it's a wide open field in a low valley.
