www.personal.psu.edu/users/r/t/rtb162/pics/chucks.html10/03 - OF SUNFLOWERS AND HOGS - Chuck's Organic Sunflower Seed Farm was the scene of a wild "Woodstock" type three day music festival this month. Von Cello was the highlight of Friday night, 10/10. Nadav Snir played drums for this show, which had hundreds of people dancing and cheering in the audience. Later this month, on 10/23, Von Cello played at Hogs and Heifers, a biker bar in uptown Manhattan where biker babes are known to dance on the bar. Tony Steele, who played on Broadway in River Dance, debuted on bass. Von Cello proved that it can get the audience going everywhere from a hippie festival to a biker bar. www.voncello.com/about_voncello_updates.htmlName: Von Cello Background: What a long strange trip it's going to be... Email: Website: Date/Time: 10/10/2003 1:35:22 AM 24.239.153.46 Comment: Today I'm a headed out to Pennsylvania with Andy Lowe and Nadav Snir (his first Von Cello gig) to play at a rock festival called Harvest Fest in Rebersberg. We don't know when we will be playing because this festival is run like a mini Woodstock, by a group of spaced out hippies. At least that is what I have heard. Anyway, it should be fun. Or at the very least, a trip! Name: spain. happy watever Background: Email: Website: Date/Time: 10/10/2003 3:52:55 AM 80.58.39.174 Comment: jack and the beans talk. Name: Von Cello Background: Three days of peace, love, and music Email: Website: Date/Time: 10/11/2003 12:41:44 PM 24.239.153.46 Comment: The Harvestfest music festival in Pennsylvania was better than anything I could have imagined. It took place on Chuck's Organic Sunflower Farm. And it happened to coincide with a full moon which first appeared over the mountains as a deep orange ball and rose like a small sun, shedding ethereal, unearthly light, illuminating the fog that rose from the fields below. I had a talk with the long haired, bearded Chuck over delicious organic food that he supplied for free in a makeshift outdoor kitchen in a back field. He said that God blessed him with great land on which to throw a party, so once a year he does his *civic duty* and has a big bash for a whole weekend. He doesn't charge anyone to come, and he doesn't pay anyone. It's just a great free party that goes on for three nights and two days. He said that people have suggested that he charge admission and donate the money to a good cause...make it into a fund raiser. But Chuck answers that what he is doing is a *fun raiser*, and throwing a great free party on his land IS his cause! Von Cello played just before midnight to a crowd of several hundred, happy, drunk and otherwise positively disposed people...mostly from the local college. People loved the band, and the energy was wonderful. We even got some people dancing, Grateful Dead style, in the front, which really made me happy. Afterwards there was a line to sign the email list and get CDs. Many people came up to me and they really *got it* about how special it is to see a rock band led by electric cello. I drove home through the night until I passed out in a parking lot somewhere. Then I took a hike in the Pocanoes and drove the rest of the way home. The stage manager said he was sure they would like to have us back next year. I can't wait! :-) Now I'll get some shut eye and head off to a gig at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center. Wow...what a difference a day makes.
