It may be too late when Americans discover Muslims aren't inherently bad people. In the case of war in Iraq and occupation, just like the holocaust, "its never too late" will not apply.
I don't know just what our current administration is after. I have my theories but it is largely playing the maybe game. Last night I decided to turn on the TV. An activity to me these days equivalent to wandering off the trail in the North California woods. Although you don't always see the poison oak you can wind up with a four week burner. There are tons of poison oak out here in North Cali, you take your chance when you wander off the trail.
As I flipped through I landed on some of the "news" stations. I hadn't watched in a while and was suprised to see blatent propaganda: "Muslims force their ways onto others, and if you don't accept their way, they will kill you", "if you do accept their way and then change your mind, they will kill you", "whoever heard of such an animal like way of life, killing, oppressing, cheating, etc.". This is right there on the TV, one of the main public at large education venues.
I think some people are getting the picture just because the corruption of the administration is so rife it is actually spilling over into other areas. The administration is so full of corruption that it spills over into just about everything they touch.
But the sad truth is many form their opinions on what they see and hear from the media. If a person knows nothing about Islam and all they ever see or hear about it is negative, chances are they won't worry too much about them when the bombs start dropping.
Ignorance is bliss but I am hopeful because the administration's mistakes with Katrina, wire-tapping, stealing elections, has finally cultivated enough doubt as a whole that people are finally looking deeper into Iraq. I think in the end they will find that our country has been killing, stealing, destroying the peaceful, and cheating whole nations right under our noses.
Much like the Germans, we are going to face some serious backlash for our leaders' decisions. I am convinced it has already happened, the minute that first bomb dropped on Baghdad, our motto of "liberty and justice for all" was critically damaged.
Six years of actions from our administration and I believe we will face the repercussions for a century, if not more. It will be written in the books much like killing off the Indians, and enslaving the Africans, always to be a sour note.
The sad thing is Americans by and large have sat back and watched it happen, either fooled by the propaganda, lost in their illusion, or lacking the numbers to take a stand.
I hope our people can rise up and clean up our leaders' act. I don't know what it is going to take. Don't be fooled.
