Howdy, Folks
I decided to start a new thread.
There was discussion about the need to set up safe, kid-friendly zones and supplying First Aid response.
During the day, I hope that the kitchen sinkhole will be a calm, peaceful area, serving up good food and attracting good vibes. Kids (with at least a few responsible adult-types along) are always welcome. I can't offer my dubious abilities as kid-wrangler, however, as I will be busy wrangling food. (Unless the [older] kids want to help wrangle food with me, of course!) ;-)
I have some small ability as a First Aid responder, and I will pack a small bag of medical supplies. (NO, I HAVE NO PRESCRIPTION PAIN DRUGS TO GIVE YOU. GO AWAY!) More would be welcome, as would someone with more experience than my Red Cross and Boy Scout training last updated several years ago. But we will make do with what we can bring to bear on any problem encountered.
See you at Chuck's
Blessed Be

Sounds great. Tonight is my prep-for-Chuck's shopping trip, so First Aid stuff is on the list and I'll bring whatever I can. Dammit, this must be why I kept thinking I should take a CPR/First Aid cert. class recently...but alas I never did. It's on the to-do list with everything else. I put out a couple "wanted" ads in case anyone had pallets or other deadfall wood I could take, but no responders yet....does anyone know how last weekend turned out? I couldn't make it out there but I hope others were able to show up to prep things. It would definitely bring the right vibe to the kitchen to make it a constantly welcome area for the kids and families that join us. Especially since the kids can't always cook for themselves! Anyhoo...firewood, garbage bags, First Aid supplies & food for the kitchen...sounds like a good checklist for everyone. And...rain tarps. Looks like it'll be a cloudy one this year. Sandy

I can't believe anyone would even for one nanosecond consider bringing children to an unorganized drug induced dirty mess...way to go parents...Jesus Christmas.

I'm not even kidding, I've never seen a Chuck's without kids present. An excercise to help you with your observation skills... constantly scan the limits of your vision, making note of each person, dog, and fire pit you see. If you want to get advanced you start adding each source of music from car radios, guitars, rave pits etc. There is a lot going on at Chuck's you may be missing.
Upstairs downstairs out in the kitchen,,,

my observations were astoundingly on point last year when some deranged man with no shirt was trying to rip the windshield wipers off of a volvo at 8pm because it was "evil". children at a real festival with organizers/security/bathrooms is one thing, but this clusterf*** is no where for a child.

OK, folks. Granted, Chuckstock is no place a rational person would bring kids.
Now, take a deep breath, and realize that <not everyone that goes to Chuckstock is a rational person>!
Face the reality that there ARE children there, and realize that providing a safe place for those children is a nobel and worthy service, so they can be safe. And everyone has the potential to need a safe, calm, peaceful place to hang out! Not just "kids".
I think the main item on the menu for Friday will be a "rice-a-roni" dish, with garlic, onions, peppers, green beans, and other vegetables to be named later. Saturday morning will be kicked-up oatmeal. The main item on the menu for Saturday will be a curried potatoes with garlic, onions, peppers, and other vegetables to be named later.
There will be sporadic racks of ribs as I feel inclined, and there will be bacon up most of the time. There may be some bread and cheese avaliable (do you like Swiss? ;-) ) Who knows what else will be up, as time goes on and supplies pour in.
Eris Bless

bacon? god dammit, I'll be missing the bacon this year....
I've got work this year and can't get around so I will not be attending. I could care less about the music and people at this point....I'm missing out on some freaking bacon. Dammit.
Anyway, if the broken glowstick fiasco decides to land next to the kitchen again, I suggest using fire extinguishers to keep the cannibals at a safe distance.

How pleasant of you, Mr. Garbage Eater. I'm guessing you never made it to Chuckstock, much less down to the kitchen. Sad, truly sad.
On to more interesting topics:
I noticed, as I was placing the kitchen into the capable hands of whoever wanted to cook after me, Sat afternoon, that the rave pit-o-despair was setting up again in the sinkhole. I was beat, so I left before I got any more tired and couldn't safely drive home.
I'm curious as to whether the kitchen setup survived the Sat-Sun night, with the rave pit spunioning next door. Is anyone out there able to give me feedback?
I think that the entire time I was down in the kitchen, it was a kind, calm place full of good food, good vibes, and (despite the rain) good fun. I think that the sign I put up at the entrance helped educate people about the presence of the kitchen, which helped set the mood.
See you all there next year!

The rave pit wasn't so crazy on saturday night because of the mud. I hung out down there waiting for some friends for a while and there were 20 people at most over 2 or 3 hours. I also know that a friend of mine spent a few good hours in the kitchen cooking that night so I think it survived pretty well

Please do not spread the negative vibes on Dr. Suitcase, he is a gentleman and a scholar.
I don't have enough space here to list all of his virtues. I'll just say that he was so kind and caring one night at the festival that it was pure magic between us.
All of my love to you Dr. Suitcase !!!
P.S. I can't wait until next time
