"Nic i hear ya on the lamehenge, although i am a fan of these kind of things if they are kept to a minimum or tasteful. Also keep in mind that lots of people really like that kind of conceptual continuity/narratological stuff...us elitists arent the only folks with an asshole or an opinion, as i am always trying to tell you you objectivist thinker."
to each their own, ad infinitum. i guess i wasnt trying to keep in mind what anyone liked other than my impression. are we targeting a particular audience here? im not trying to be elitist but rather offer input, not to be taken as anything other than a thought i had and typed with reguard to my own asshole. if you are trying to refer to Billy the Mountain, i find it pretty unlistenable. if on the other hand you are referring to Gregary Peccary, then its one of my favorites, but its also mind blowing in its composed music and overtly satirical in its narrative.
"Anyway these are only concepts at this point, Joe is master production and final edit man, so we will all bang our gavels to no avail because 'what he says, does' in the end. "
yeah, my gavel reference was just on the heels of when i typed that i would suspend "judgment"... not to mean that i have a gavel that could crush anything. i do have a ghetto toy gavel that makes a funny sound when you shake it. it has a happy face on it, and at one time had bubble blowing solution in the handle.
dont hear what im not saying...
heck, i could always edit out the narraration from the copy i listen to, *****if it be undesirable. ***** (once heard)
if "people" "like that sort of thing" , more power to "them".

Yo Nic, just let me know when you find out about your work schedule. Right now I'm hoping for 1/27. Let me know when you find out and I'll go negotiate with the studio. Don't worry if we have to reschedule into Feb, our timetiable is just rough guidelines. I recorded some just bass tracks of some new chords, I'll try to add the "keepers" from past rounds and post before the 2nd. Take care...

no prob. joe.
i just read my post from last night, and it seems to come out slightly wrong... i think due to overthink, especially in light of not having heard what this will sound like. suffice to say i am all ears... until then... i hang in suspence like so much hitchcock.
to relapse into overthink: i hear you on peter and the wolf, i just imagine that sort of thing being a product of much labor and time, sort of like i was saying early in the discussion about our lack of "face time" as you've called it , etc.... i dunno... again, totally not trying to nay say.
the narrative clip posted is interesting... i can just imagine cringing to it... maybe i will be pleasently suprised.
i dont even care that much really, i just like playing music.

Hey nic im gonna do a red9.Dunkle like retraction here, only i wasnt drunk and i wasnt saying things that i didnt want to say..
I think my "new style" of posting, that is, i dont go to the trouble of spelling things out, rather, I go for a style of "just say a bunch of silly crap and see how they take it" led to you maybe thinking i was more abrasive and serious than i might have 'come off'. As i used to spend time making sure all my words/posts were excellent, precise, expresive, now i prefer the 'inkblot' of expression, including phrases, words, thoughts, opaque references, et all.
SO, my point here is, I was just kidding in all/every way, no serious approach and or/attack, seriosuly, from your reply i thought maybe you thought i thought something other than what i really thought, HOWEVER i might be misinterpreting what you thought and said, so therefore, ignore this whole post, the use of the word Asshole was gratuitous and in no way a slight on your view and/or suspension of said Gavel, which i initially understood.
In all seriousness i think the first rule of reading my posts--here, on the 9, and anywhere else would ALWAYS be: Clay is never saying anything nasty or rude, no matter his word selections. Between you and me, our post-history sometimes leads to (i think) you taking my comments more seriously than i mean them, because you are the best nicest wonderful gooclown ive ever met and i would never offend, even inadvertantly!!!!! SO DONT BE OFFENDED YOU ALABAMA SLAMMER.
Side thought: Perhaps there should be a single word for "I humbly submit that you may have misinterpreted my post, or I may have misexpressed my intenion, but I certainly meant no harm". The word in question should convey both humility and apology, with a sense of firmness and reconciliation. Any suggestions?
And now that we are all standing around with our emotional pants hanging down around our ankles i suggest a group hug during which our choads and/or taints will become wet with glee and/or disgusting substances.
Speaking of Gregory Peckary, i really think that kind of flavor could be subtly injected into this project. My biggest reservation in authoring anything is the fear of being taken seriously, or too seriously, since the concept of traditional narrative is way beat like a horse. Humor is hard to inject and balance in a self-parodying way, which is why im asking royc9 to go for a faux Johny Cash style voice, self-explanatory i hope.
As for panty-wetting, let the wetting begin, enthusiasm is good/bad. I am open to criticism in spite of any abrasiveness i might have conveyed.

I really like criticism come to think of it. im more than willing to dish it out, and do want to take it. If stuff sucks then say it sucks.
the suckage/cringe factor is something i worry about too. I think this is evident through my 95% preference for non-lyrical music. This is why i think that a minimal application of narrative to the album (i.e. album intro/exit) might be preferable. Additional narration could be applied to the interweb project slideshow, etc.
Example: 1st track=interlude (no vocals) and establishment 2nd track=another interlude/preview music With narrative intro (something like written intro above) 3rd track ----#x track=music only (this is body of album. This is where the freaky DREAM section comes out. Fat and crazy music, a dip deep into the night of the mind, the long dark travels through hell and back of Banjo Jones) 2nd-to last track=outro/windup narrative&music (tenetively refered to as 'daybreak') Last track, thematic conclusion/etc, return to musical theme
Also, something for Joe/Nic/Caleb/Josh: With all this talk about narrative etc, I would emphasise that we shouldnt lose sight of the main focus here--the music, like nic said--and getting a good sound. Remember, this is the working project Bass and Banjo sound, clunky, fat bass, wild plunky banjo, psychadelic bluegrass/country. This is the main function of the project, all narration/dreams/additional contributions are secondary. Because if we dont get it right the first time we're JUST GOING TO HAVE TO RECORD ANOTHER ALBUM UNTIL WE GET IT RIGHT!!!
what a tragedy

clay, thanks for the clarification, although i assure you that i didnt take your post in any way even remotely approaching the toe of "offensive". although i may have misinterpreted a little bit of a comment, i am well familiar with your style, and although you say its new, it seems about as new as trey's habit to me ;-)
what i will say is that i often feel the same way, as your expression of thinking your words could be taken as "too pointed"... i often, frequently even, think that my "internet tone" and real life tone in times of debate comes off as too serious and infested with real elitism. which may be real undertones, but overall, i think its my philo background that has made me write in a way that seems argumentative and aggressive with language. i am just as non-serious as you perhaps...although i dont usually go for opaqueness, but sometimes edgyness... or absurdness in some occasions...
i dunno... but your comments(non-retractive retractions) are well recieved although they may have been unnecessary
as we have been around and around about before, i honestly/firmly believe that "its all subjective man", and i think 99% of people commit the fallacy of intrinsic value all the time when asserting their opinions... my opinions take this form (of seeming claims of objectivity), however, this is not the case...
i mean, when i mock indie rock and "current music", i really just refer to my opinion of music, and i dont really think these forms of music (or their fans) are objectivly inferior to what im into... ...although my statements (not on this board necessarily) look as if i am condemning said forms , and stamping them with some kind of gavel of claimed objectivity.
value is a relative relation to a subject in a context, this i will stand by.
yours in letters, numbers and 4 color rectangular card slices, nic

Nic, don't worry. If you are uncomfortable with narration we can keep it one the bonus "Dreams" disc/website, or it would be in the "movie" form. I would rather have you be completely comfortable going into this.
Try not to focus on our lack of face time, I'll probably be in the control room plugging my bass right into an amp simulator, caleb and josh might be in the same room, but you'll probably be in some kind of isolation room. I'll be posting some just basstracks and demos asap, I'll include a track of muffin jugs with Josh, caleb, and I that you should try to overdub on to simulate your nofacetime reality you will probably face in the studio. There is a possibility we can do same room in a circle as discribed in the latest Electronic Musician Magazine. Send me your address to degicank@gmail.com and I'll send you a copy. Take care...

Word up!
Please review the demos, we need to settle on our finals, I've been working a lot on a few new parts, i'll put up soon, plus bearbonestheme. Once we settle on final chord progressions our next step will be times, themes, solos, structure of parts, and buildups transitions. I starting trying to work stuff out.
* final peace of bussiness... COPYRIGHT! Starting in '07 we are going PRO with Degicank. For this progect I think we should split copyright up evenly between the Playas and Clay. It may never matter, or it may be a very good thing that we decided ahead of time. We'll pay the artists and Narrator a flat fee(IOU). We'll owe them until the money starts coming in if ever. Maybe we can offer a bonus for different benchmarks of profits. I want to register this with Library of Congress as a Suite so we only have to pay 45$ once. This 45$ can come from future profits, we have an automatic copyright as soon as we create. By registering with library of congress we will be protected into the future...
Lets start by taking 25% of the top of profits for expenses: Artist, Narrator, Copyright... until these flat fees are paid off.
the other 75% will start going right to copyright holders so we can see benefits right awayyyy.
Expenses such as travel/ studiotime/ duplication/ and distribution will need to be taken care off pre profit. All invovled will be considered independant contractors and responsible for their own taxes.
This stuff may seem out of place, but I'm tired of the starving artist lifestyle. Lets start building to a bigger future, it may not be this project, but the lessons learned will be a very valuable investment.
Happy Solstice everyone!!!
We just saw Santa on a firetruck and he gave Ava a stuffed Dog...Sofie.

I am completely fine with the profits and copyright being held only by people who play instruments on the album. I am full of ideas but that is not as valuable as the people who actually create the art. Royce will also donate his voice (herein refered to as 'narrator') free of charge and copyright, I speak on his behalf at his direction ("agent").
As for the cost of the copyright, I will pay for this, let me know the method you prefer.
the biggest expense that I am aware of will be gas money for the trip to VT. We do need to discuss the vehicular options for this trip (Josh's drums will not fit in any of my cars...josh if you are reading this, lets talk about our transport options)
Joe I agree that everything should be agreed up front about money because it is certain that if BB/BJ makes it big, Caleb will be clamoring for his share of the pie. ;']

06 DCGos123s.mp3: this one i can imagine with a bass and banjo plucking away. Slow tempo and this could even lend itself to a 'theme' or a 'dawn/end of night theme' toward the end of the album.
09 05 beat jam.wma: Common, this is awesome!!! It has the right kind of meandering vibe and longwindedness. Now, im trying to imagine it with banjo and bass, less keyboard...that makes it hard. But i think the slow tempo, the drunken slowness of it...this kind of vibe will go well in many of the songs. I especially like that it morphs into a regae beat toward the middle.

You will be cut in equal, royce needs a new agent. Lets pay him 222$ to start(paid from profits so it may never come) If B&B breaks 10k in profit we'll bonus Royce another 2k$ I was talking about esnips demos plus www.geocities.com/rjs121576/patpanang.html pat panang: tunel, lalala, and planet22muffinjugs I'll have a round 4 demos uploaded by tommorow, these will be the final contestants, please please please remeber they will come out totally different with the b&b formation. We're going into the home strech now, nic will be letting us know about 1/27 soon, I'll aproach the studio guy again soon. If we have to change recording date that will be A-OK. No Worries...
