Its too bad that the hell tapes from bop22.5 are MIA. That would offically make 6? 7? Unobops that have little-to-no sound documentation. I have fragment film from parts 3-5, fragment audio from 4-6, and i dont think much/any from 7.
the music at part 4 still stands as one of my personal favorites (Japhy Ryder played one of their best shows ever that night, for sure, and one of the last greats), Part 6 was the success of the 'everybody jams'concept (a big success fo sure, 4 drum kits and 14+ players), and part 7 with tDS was a return to the 'tight band' aspect of parts 1-4. tDS, imho, will definitely play at the "next" uno birthday as they remain one of the most dynamic and excellent bands around our scene.
In spite of any playa hataz, id rather have a band show up at uno, chucks, degi, etc and suck major ASS while taking chances rather than play something predictable or boring. My obsession with Phish always incorporates this aspect, because risk and chances are some of the most ballzy things anyone can ever take on, especially with 100s (or 10,000s) of people watching. Sometimes it will suck--and this only proves that chances are being taken. And i did like the set at uno.5, if only because i have a great deal of interest in chaos and cacophony!!!

(cross-posted from the red9)
Hello there,
It has been about 5 years or more since the last Uno sticker hit the scene!
For reference, the last uno sticker that i knew about was the Uno Sticker, i.e. looks like an uno card. The ones we slang on tour were Phish stickers made by Uno people. Please correct my memory if this is incorrect information.
It is time for a new uno sticker to hit the scene, resetting the clock to ZERO. Rather than "just design it myself", I think it would be phun for some of you artists to contribute concepts/designs for the sticker.
Rather than just a lot of people saying "put bob uecker on the sticker", i think it would be more beneficial to have actual images to consider. If you just want a photograph of Bob Uecker, thats fine, but send me a picture of what you want.
I am especially thinking of the known creative visual masters among us. This list would include Vortman, Kelly Neidig, Japhy Matt, Isadora Botox, CALLI-hair, So-D, Fitch, Kinder, and whoever else considers themselves a visual artist. Even if you are not someone with a visual art history, you can shoot the moon and get your uno design on a sticker. No previous work experience required! You will be instantly famous!
Here are the rules: #1: Your design can only be black, white, and red. #2: It must be submitted by April 1. #3: It must be uno.
Concepts for reflection: --If you have ideas that are currently lots of COLOR, and you think, "its not black white and red", there are ways we can fix that problem. Talk to me and let me know if you are having problems.
--If you dont like the deadline, i am sorry, but that is over 2 months, pretty good amount of time.
--If you dont like uno, join the club, psycho greg is the president and Evil Boyfriend is his lover.
Well thats it! Go for it!
Post-script: If anyone has a newer car and needs an uno sticker to put on it, i still have a limited number of the original printing. Please email me and write the following:
Send me an uno sticker and I will put it on my car/bike/truck/feet. Send it to this address: (insert your address).

You know me...all in favor of outness. Was listening to 12/14/95 today and reflecting that so much of Outness is both grandious (huge transitions, wild ride) and simultaniously subtle (the simple grand beauty of Slave, NICU quirky but catchy). Also the <Really> subtle sense of humor/out that pervades great phish shows..when trey tells the audience, "We'll play a song on a sign, but you have to bring a sign we want to play" then quips, "We cant play every sign", i can sense the laughter and quirky weirdness amongst the bandmembers over how odd the sentence sounded, like silent laughter...
just ramblin. Out is a state of mind and it will come through if the creating mind is infused with it. Normalicy sounds Out if its always present. I am currently trying to balance similar concerns...Out for the Sake of Out vs. Outness
Gonna repost this to the 9 for group discussion

Wow.
Well, part of the "not recognizing its you" aspect is because the recording and linear flow of the recording is so tight, so composed, that i dont sit there thinking, "ok nic is funny". I catch my brain wandering away on flights of fancy and my cranium expands/contracts, suddenly reaizing, "wow, Nic made this?"
Its not always bad for music to be reaaally distinctive, but sometimes Greatness must be packaged in forms of Form, aka something that does not abraid, but rather soothes.
Nice head

Wow nic your Boing Board song is so awesome, i listen to it and forget that someone i know made it. That is a good test of art. Does it sound like someone you know made it?
If yes, then A: you have good art friends or B: your friends dont sound like art
Good work on making it to choice A

Hey also Joe and I exchanged a Limited Partnership Agreement Rider in advance of Unobop5, it was via email and i have a print out of it somewhere. I have always kept this item very close to mind because there is no way that i think anything to do with one group should go and spill over and infect whatever the other group might be, which is what Uno can do in the blink of an eye, dont ask me more.
I seem to recall that the Limited Partnership made it clear that the arrangement is voluntary and could be terminated at any time for any reason, and made clear that 2 entities remain independent bodies while working together on common missions! UnoBop5 Planet facemelt was a great, and i emphasize GREAT experience, definitive, awe-inspiring, soul-crushing, and so Uno, i couldnt have possibly written a better script if you'd paid me a bunch of degidollars. I wish i could go back and relive it because it was so f***ing cool, Boo attacked a gun-rack and there were candles on the floor. Hooray, it was perfect!
DegiJames seems to have one version of what Degicank is, and then others seem to have other versions in mind. I love reading your innermost confessions so much that i am neglecting the 9 the past few weeks. Re: different conceptions, the same could be said in Uno, especially when you could pit the visions of Uno via Wenger vs. Christa vs. Royce vs. Chowder vs. Elena vs. Vortman vs. Wild Kate vs. Bizarro Billy vs. Shinko vs. Sap vs. Bearded vs. Gus vs. Shark vs. Isadora vs. Angela vs. Leon vs. Derek vs. Elene vs. Sam (oops she's Degi i think) vs. Armpit Kid vs. Jake vs. K5 vs. Japhy Ryder (enclosed universe) vs. Chowchow vs. Jimmy vs. Garrison Keilor vs. my mom vs. Cousin Craig vs. Rittle vs. Kiran vs. Marty vs. all the way back to the beginning of time.
I always get laughs in my mouth whenever people start defining things regarding mysticism, its like, Hey, dont you get it? I also get shamed whenever i catch myself laying tentetive rules onto things. Because it might not be mysticism after all, but rather a very businesslike situation, really, it might be, i dont know at all. Maybe that is my conception of Uno and Degi and i still have something to learn about re: everything.
PS. I hope Uno can be Jar Jar in the picture above!

I like the word psuedonization quite a bit. I re-read it three times before proceeding to the section where you said you just made it up. Perhaps you should create a wikipedia page for it.
Re: psuedonization I find it interesting that such a discussion should take place on the uno thread within the degicank board. If james is being serious, then id definitely know my response. If James is messing around, then my response would be different.
I do know that i personally differ from, say, people who are actually trying to do something specific with their art/lives. I have learned some things in life, and know that there are an infinitude of other items that I have not yet learned. One thing that i might have learned (but may later revise) is that specificity and intention in Art are probably dangerous seductions..dangerous in the fact that nearly all art includes aspects of chance, luck, and dare i say, "magic" (i.e. the hodgepodge of infinite inputs and influences...sociological, physical, metaphysical, etc). To pretend that it is otherwise is, IMHO, to inevitably head down the path to departments of logistics and/or fact-checking slave drivers, not to mention layers of beauocracy etc. And i already work there during my day job, and it isnt Art.
from the sidelines: If james' conception of degi-clank includes some semblence of these kind of items, then so be it, or perhaps im misinterpreting, no offense intended. I humbly think there is value to all perspectives, if only to give balance to/define the force. I am still a neophyte uno and just found out about degi-mysticism so I am interested in seeing all sides of the rubix cube.
Conflict does spur competition. Ann Rynd loves you Doktor.
Dr. and i had conversations regarding structure and committees a while back. I still perceive the integral differences. I still dont know any more answers.
I know/suspect that my respective place in uno, degi, and anywhere else is as an art cheerleader. I believe in Art and have seen its majesty. I believe in it. I dont know that quality is something that can be regimented. I think the best Art just happens, while James' argument for planning may also be valuable in setting the stage for such Happenings to happen. Happenings need to happen somewhere, and Chuck's Farm takes a lot of planning to make a space for it. But like Garcia, Trey, and the other magicians who ultimately stand at the center, i think the planning aspect can dangerously eat away at the real thing in the center.
However attitudes such as James' provide contrast to such nonsense, and the troll under the bridge is always a good way to remember to KEEP WALKING!

I dropped some by accident at Josh's house and he used one as a beer coaster.
I sent a few to VT with Joe and Jess and Ava
I gave one to a man who thought it was a business card, then turned it over to see a picture of Magner. He was shocked and awed, as the saying goes.
Dr. Cank call me at your leisure i have a question to ask if you were serious

Um. . . .
George Bush is the best president the country has ever had.
Is that worthy?
