Yo, the only problem with that concept is that the landlord can be strict about stuff, i.e., you'd actually need to have 2-3 people willing to sign the lease. The current tenents are leaving because after 3 years she started to "hassle" them about stuff....
in my opinion, the landlord is no worse or better than other landlords ive had. She upped the rent from 1100 to 1300, which pissed off the tenents, and then gave them shit about having 2 dogs living there (the lease says no pets, so it wasnt like they werent warned). Not to take the landlords side entirely though......she's has no tact in addressing issues that could be better handled, but this is a common problem with landlords IMHO.
Anyway, James lives in CA, Caleb just signed a new lease, so that leaves Vort and Krusty, who i am already talking to. Basically this means if they were gonna do it, they may need 2 more folks. And Krusty is by no means a real factor here, since he has a decent job in SC that might keep him locked in for a few more months, minimum.....
hard to say. Vortman has expressed interest. It would be great if we could find someone else to board with him. The timing of this is SO shitty, since tDS just rented their place, and i suspect that 5034 would be better for band practice space....

Big news: Vortman, others: the house next to my apartment, the infamous 5034 Willows (West Philadelphia), is about to go back 'up for rent' in West Philly. My cool neighbors have decided to move into new quarters in the neighborhood (long story), and I am desperately hoping to replace these cool neighbors with new cool neighbors, rather than some boring a-holes. I mean, Kris filling the house across the street with womyn was sweet, but 5034 Willows--that place is the bomb!
I think the rent is now $1300 per month..which breaks down to approx $325 per month per person, which is nearly as cheap as one can find in Philly....4 bedrooms (one is kind of small as you will recall), plus that heady basement known as "Stupe". Krusty was kicking around the idea of moving to Philly but it might take some arm twisting...if anyone on this board knows anyone looking for residence, let me know STAT cuz its a sweet house that will surely get rented soon....for anyone reading this, email me at unoclay@hotmail.com if you need my phone #...

I have never come to a conclusion regarding nuclear power. Sounds like a bad idea to build them on fault lines. I think humans are inevitably prone to error (i.e. homer simpson asleep at the switch) and that nuclear meltdowns have already happened in the short (i.e. 50~ year) lifespan of the concept...not good odds in my book....
anyway, hopefully more people can do voluntary sign-ups for wind/green power, pay the extra $5 per month, and propel the systemic change.

Hey there, as i sit and listen to my cubicle-mates discuss important issues like "i think its time for me to get new highlights" and, "im thinking of getting the exfoliating full natural clot-removing invigorating facial this weekend, then my face will only be red for a few days", i was reminded of making this informational environmental post: "The widely held notion that gas-guzzling cars are the core of the problem (global warming) is wrong. Transport (including planes, ships and cars) produces only 13.5% of the emissions. The biggest contibutor is power generation (24.5%) and the biggest contributor among sources of power is coal. . . . the 2nd biggest source of emissions is deforestation at 18%" --Economist 09Sep06. Without getting into the nuances and debates that these percentages entail (i.e. some place the transport emissions much higher due to air travel), one thing that a concerned person can do to <greatly> reduce their impact on global emissions is alter the means by which that person receives their power. In Philly, as in many places, this entails a voluntary switch to green resources, via your local power company. Basically, this is my do-gooder post of the day. For those of you who wish to add $5 to your monthly bill--meaning that a large % of your home power use will be coming from wind sources--go to the following website. Its PECO's sign up page for wind-power. I've been doing it for a year and for $60 added annual dollars the super feeling of smugness is well worth it. My farts even smell better since I enrolled. tinyurl.com/nprr9If you do not receive your power from PECO, you obviously will need to research this with your local power company. Though it might sound far-fetched, a great number of power companies allow one to purchase their power from green resources (this idea was already in place in State College as of 1998). Check their websites.... thoughts on this topic are welcome. It seems like a very small cost (to me) in order to propogate a change in the system. the more people who sign up for programs like these, the more widespread (and affordable) they will become

Dear Mr/Ms Cank:
Here in Philadelphia we have received the latest copy of the installment of the degicank library. In honor of this generous gift, we here in "the/a" philadelphia uno office say "A Big Thank You" for the donation/gift/subscription.
Following my return from the next week/two of outings to Asheville, Vancouver, and Newfoundland, a return package of items and/or things will be prepared to be sent to the VT offices of Degi and/or Cank. Please appreciate the need for patience as my ability to be "at home" is limited by an extremely hectic travel schedule. However, as Caleb is fond of saying, "If you are not in West Philly, then I figured you must be in some other place".
On that note, let me congratulate all participants on a JOB WELL DONE. It is obvious that in the future, the artwork of this unified field theory will forge ahead into new realms, sensations, and embelishments. I, for one, am hyper-great proud to be associated with it/them/you all.

the word on the street is that P22 is playing a show tonight at Caleb's house in West Philadelphia. A band called 'Bear Is Driving' is slated to open around 830, followed by Planet at around 930 or so.
The concern is that Mr. Po-Po might come and halt the festivities due to fussy ned flander neighbors. So we are not 100% that everything will be kosher but the propects are great!
The party is probably going to be BYOB. The address is something very near to 46th and Baltimore....Caleb's street kind of branches off from Baltimore in a diagonal direction. He lives about 5 houses up on the right side of the diagonal street (Cedar?). I dont know the exact address but if you went to 46th and Baltimore you'd be really close and could just listen for the sonorous sounds of whatever band is playing.
Hope to see you there

Chucks Fram review:
Well that was a good time. And i mean "really".
I dont want to belabor the point. If you were there, you know. If not, you are jealous. It was really good to see so many of you there, especially the new FRAM faces who finally 'made the trip'.
Quotes of the night:
"I think this is the hardest ive spun on fungiez, ever" --Lou
"I better go take down my tent so k5 and Rittle dont kill me when they wake up and finds me passed out in a pile of bottles" --Lou
The whole show from about 1 AM until 9 AM was the best/most fun concert ive seen all year. Before i get accused of captain-infused subjectivism, i will just say that i did not see the captain at chucks, just mr. Beer, a whole lot of mr. beer.
The daily supplement took the stage around 12:30? and played until about 1:45 if memory serves. The sound was great, the band really hit the new numbers well, and the mathy-solid space jams were awesome, their bass player is really solidly able to 'hold it down' at high rates of speed. A lot of energy in the air. Really inspiring. Definitely ranks among my favorite tDS shows, especially the new song. A double-bill with planet REALLY fits these guys. Kind of 'tunes the fork correctly' if you know what i mean.
A guest artist: Krusty took the stage and did a pre-22 freestyle rap to introduce the band. I really hope it made the recordings because he 'nailed it'. The best part was when he turned a bazooka joe comic into spontanious lyrics. I am a big fan of bubble-gum rap, so i am a bit biased.
Around 2? or so, P22 took the helm for about 4-5 hours of uninterupted starship madness. true to requests, the band definitely delivered the Muffin Jugs sandwitch, with plenty of cheese and meat in between the bread. I think the end of the show included multiple muffin-related segueways to really drive the point home. Also a lot of straightjacket madness included. I dont bother with setlists since i inevitably get them wrong. No weak links and no problems IMHO during this set.
I was getting really psyched at about 5:30 when the sun started to come up and the band was just Hitting their Stride. I just got the chills thinking of how cool it was. Lots of really blissy jamming as the dawn turned into day, smiles all around, Josh Gwinn looked like he was having the time of his life. The audience had dwindled by that time to about 20-30 people still paying various forms of attention, and i proclaim they were a lucky bunch. Lou delivered a box of beers to stage around the time of dawn, and somebody showed up with 4 whole boxes of doughnuts for the band and crowd. It was epic, beers and breakfast mid-set. Another quote: "So you are only on beer, Mr. Krill?"
When planet finally 'called it a day', some members remained onstage for a Daily-Planet hybrid thing (appox 7-9 AM). One of the best parts of the whole weekend was the Wharf Rat-BootieDoYa mashing. In and out of the 2 songs for several minutes. Lots of dead-inspired jamming and i celebrated with more beers. Took a lot of pictures too. I sincerly hope that Kellearher or somebody took some recordings of this "Chuck's Farm! Chucks Farm!" section, b/c it was sweetness.
Tara was a bit surprised when i arrived back at the car around 930 AM, fell on the ground, and said i wasnt driving anywere. I then proceeded to sleep for about 24 hours with short interuptions for hoagie eating and telephone calls.

I am wondering if any progress has been made.
One idea is if you guys have done the old-fashioned thing and talked to the major realities in the area. if not, i will be glad to get their #s so y'all can start communicating via phone and interweb. A lot of times they even have a webpage with photos and descriptions.

Hey Chris, i left you a message last night with another potential house to check out. Hey, here's another place to begin seriously considering for a show. Maybe something with Red Rocket, tDS and P22, some sort of West Philly Invaded by Central PA thing, or maybe not, some kind of show, maybe tDS and others. In any case, the Rotunda is a place that is often overlooked, but a cool venue. Definitely the kind of place where we could recruit philadelphia Puppeteers to do a show interpreting the music of bands. Or perhaps a concert with live painting during. I'd like to stretch the brain a bit but the venue is a place to capitalize upon. I forget the name of the puppeteers, but i think they would go well with a chorogrpahed p22 setlist "Puppets and Planets" or something. Also, for a less bizarre effort i think a concert could be given at this location. Here is the link to the venue's myspace page. www.foundationarts.org/foundation.html
