I work at a company that ensures the development of new medications is done safely and correctly. Most medication has to go through years (i.e. 5-10) years of development before it can be deemed 'reasonably safe' for sale. As we know, even then, there can be problems. The point of my job is to make sure medication safety tests are done correctly and according to best scientific research. Interesting stuff so far.

these thoughts are very useful. i appreciate the comments.
The coworker in question just asked me if it was warm outside. In keeping with the advise you've all given me, I replied, "Well, i think so, but then again, warm and cold are different things to different people." But she wouldnt let it rest: "Why, what do YOU mean by warm and cold?"
Just as i was coming up with a snappy comeback, her phone rang, saving me from having to avoid talking about personal issues.

I was just talking with a coworker at my new job for a while. She was asking me about some of the things in my workspace, including but not limited to uno cards, degicank sticker, music, dredlocks, lifestyle. It was a conversation i'd dreaded because I don't always enjoy explaining complex concepts to someone who may have little understanding of the things i am talking about. Meaning, i dont think we have enough time here for me to change your whole view of things.
I am not trying to be an elitist here. I am merely posting about the way the conversation made me feel. Namely, it made me feel as though i am luckier than the coworker in question to have a life full of interesting and unusual people. The coworker in question didnt really demonstrate much of a context for understanding the sorts of things I was talking about. Aware of this, i kept my comments and explanations to a minimum. The coworker is a very nice person, but in general, seems very 'regular' if you know what I mean.
I like ''regular people''. I guess i just felt kind of weird realizing how fortunute i consider myself to associate with people who i would not label as ''regular''. It made me feel contrast. It made me wish i could give her a magic pill that would open up the doors. But especially it made me notice something about myself. This is not a new revelation. I wonder if any of the degicank.com discussion forum members have insight or commentary on such a phenomenon. Feel free to label me a cock-sucking elitist if that is the correct way to label someone. I appreciate honesty in all things.

I tend to think less subcategories, the better. The more the site becomes subdivided, the less likely some users are to click through all the sections to see 'whats going on'. But i am a relatively low-degi poster, so i may not have my finger "on the pulse". You guys, see, you guys have a pulse. I am only trying to find it. Two fingers on the neck, thats my policy.

yeah on the old folks discussion i think i am suddenly getting younger, in spite of the fact of getting older. For about 2 years, my life has felt kind of stagnant in the 'personal development' sense. Sure, ive been having a blast, and things couldnt be better. But i realized i was getting into a rut, a daily rut, coming home from work and doing the same shit every day (i.e. eat, nap, video game, read book, coffee, dishes, guitar, snack, adult beverage, dvd (cartoon), sleep). Hey my life is great, no complaints. But i realized i was feeling oldish because i was just doing the same thing every day.
Now new job=not feeling old b/c i am quite busy. Shake it up and suddenly energy returns. Hooray!
I will see about the degidrinkfest. I have a party to attend in Myerstown on 18th, but as it stands now, 17th could be possibility. Do you need anything 'brung'?

I am really sorry i didnt get to attend this year's festivities. I had already made commitments to another musical project for the evening in question, plus other family commitments to contend with. Maybe next year we could get a little more than a one-week warning, it would probably allow a bit more flexibility with the schedule and more people to attend. Maybe you did warn me in time and i forgot. It is hard to tell.

i'll join you in the hypocrite square: im actually hoping that the reunion isnt for another year or so, even though the rumors are contrary. I just got a new job that i need to keep, and though i get a generous amt of vacation, taking one depends on the workload at my office. This might get problematic when tour starts b/c i tend to get very unmanageable when there are shows going on and i am not at them. By 'unmanageable', i have historically meant 'not at work'.

Someone has been posting under my name!! (See above: Clay 'guest'). That was not me. Seriously. I rarely make 1 line posts, especially when the topic is Phish.
That said, i basically agree with the fake Clay posting. I do hate that people abuse herion and OC at Phish shows, as I've lost good friends to both drugs. I do think that people should avoid getting addicted to heavy drugs. So i wouldnt exactly say 'who cares' about heroin--after all, the reason trey de-toured Phish is due to his own battle with OC.
But, that said, I've heard that the October/NYE run rumors are true from some higher-ups, and betta betcha bottom dollar i'll be there. There will never be any change in the amount of lot-trash at shows, as the reputation has been established. However, the critical thing to know is that Phish, post hiatus (aka 2002-->) was not different than 'old' phish. I observed a lot of people change their opinions about phish, yet as one who attends most of the shows, i'd offer the opinion that people change, phish didnt really change that much. If you need examples, check out soundfiles of IT, Woosta Feb 03, SPAC 04, Boston 03, or about 30 other shows I could name.
The point is that people change over time, and therefore, their relationships to art change. Trey flubbed songs back in 94. Trey wrote ballads and sappy songs back then too. Phish 2.0 (i.e. JEMP) will continue the trend. People will continue to have their opinions change, and that is great! Evolution is important and valid.

There is no UNO webpage in operation at this time. We have gone through a few incarnations but nobody is ever really interested in maintaining a webpage or paying the $35 per year domain hosting fee.
At this time, most of the UNO-related internet communication is done via a yahoo-based listserver, and alternatively, via the old-fashioned telephone. Thus 'we' have no location for degicank to link into. For people looking to join the red9 listserver, contact me at unoclay@hotmail.com and i will send you a link.
I just put a degicank sticker on the wall of my cubicle this morning. It is a rather ominous sticker with an eyeball between the words "Deg" and "Cank". We shall see how long it takes for a question about that to occur from one of my coworkers.

Dear Chris Kalleher, your name might be hard to spell but your generosity is not. Thank you to you and the Daily Supplement for the wonderful job you did at Uno Birthday Party, your help with making the jam a success was above and beyond the call of duty. I strongly suggest you check out the messages from 10/22 through the present, as there have been multiple shoutouts on the www.yahoogroups.com/red9 board that include your name. You are the tits on a gorilla which translated means = "heady dude". Seriously thanks so much for your help, degicank power boosting the uno orbiter into the innerspaces of your brain-hole!

Given that the situation appears to have generated civil unrest, a dialog is called for. Most school districts will permit students to have an alternate activity if they exhibit a moral conflict with relation to a given activity (i.e. an exam testing memorization of the frog's biology).
Assuming that this is not possible, the students should be informed, in an adult, open forum, of the consequences of their action. The message should not be delivered in a threatening, judgemental way, but rather as a , "ok, these choices will result in these kind of reactions". Students should be encouraged to think for themselves and follow their true principles, while accepting the consequences of their actions as adults. Students should not be unduly bludgeoned with accusations of hypocracy (i.e. they eat chicken), although there could be meaningful ways of engaging this question in an open dialog. It should not be a coercive or judgemental dialog though.
Mr. Panang, like the students, must weigh the scales of personal values vs. professional responsibility. All decisions (particularly ones that might go against the establishment) should be made with openness and honesty. Discussions with the Principal or other team members could be helpful. All student objections should be dealt with as coming from adults...kids like the sense that their actions are respected, and it builds character
